Hi Karen,
Depending on what you wish to accomplish, I think that professional labs range from West Coast Imaging (very good to work with) to Costco (machine prints).

Re: photo lab
I have used (though mostly McKenna and ACILab) the following and have found them be great to work with.
http://www.mckennaproimaging.com
http://www.acilab.com
http://www.km-imaging.com
(if you talk to Steve Kelly at ACI, tell him I sent you...he is a great guy...My last name is pronounced Ay-ler)
They are all national labs with great prices and great customer service. ACI has free shipping with orders over $12. All of them also support professional photographers by sponsoring conventions, trade-shows, etc. I try to support the labs that support me....all of these do.
Best of luck.

Re: photo lab
Karen,
I have had excellent results with MPix/Miller Photography. MPix is geared toward the serious amateur, while the Miller brand is for the Professional. I have used both. I am very satisfied with both, however, I tend to use MPix. com since it meets my needs. A one day turnaround with MPix is pretty cool. The quality of the prints are great and the colors are spot on.
