What kind of camera strap do you use?

Postby amycramer » Thu Dec 17, 2009 3:41 pm

I am looking for a new camera strap. I need one that will stay in place and hopefully be comfortable. I do alot of hiking and kayaking and am afraid I will either damage or lose the camera. Anyone have any ideas out there? thanks for your time, Amy :?

I have been happy with the Op/tech Pro strap - I have this one
http://www.adorama.com/OTPSBK.html?sear ... 2ftech+pro
and have been happy with it. They have a whole different collection of straps including some harness type straps. One nice thing about the Op/Tech straps like that - they have the quick release buckles on each end down by the camera and you can disconnect the main strap, buckle the two short segments together for a wrist strap. check out their other stuff as well - in general, the Op/Tech stuff seems to get favorable comments. ( I also like to avoid running around with my "NIKON" camera strap advertising (I don't have a Nikon hat or jacket either  - I just like the cameras))

Best thing I've found to help keep my neck from killing me after a long day. If you have a strap that hangs only around your neck, you will be sore after the day's over. The R-Strap works good for me.

Hello Amy.

I also stand by the OP-TECH strap that Mikey mentioned. I have had it for a while, now, and have been VERY happy with it. Additionally, I have since purchased the OP-TECH Dual Camera Harness. I bought this one for use at weddings, or some other functions where both of my cameras would be utilized. One of the features of this Dual Harness is the fact that it can very easily be converted into single-camera mode. In this configuration, the weight of the camera is not localized around your neck, but distributed across your shoulders - translating into a much more comfortable wearing of your camera & lens. As opposed to your camera dangling at your side, the double-strapped configuration has your camera in 'front' of you. If memory serves me correct, this Dual Harness cost me no more than about $38.

Good luck.

Depending on the person's figure and strap configuration, some women may not be able to use certain model of camera straps, practically speaking.

That was a common complaint on the Tamrac "Slingbags" (I have a couple of them) - a number of women found they were a pain  One of those things you just have to try and see what works for you.

Personally I hate all the neckstraps I've used. What I use is a heavy duty wrist strap and love it. It's either this one or one just like it, don't remember where I got it, though it could be from the place linked

That's ok for cameras that are lighter and have light weight lenses attached.

That wouldn't likely be recommended for a DSLR with a 70-200 lens attached though. The support must be connected to the lens tripod ring else the lens and camera are too heavy to be held by only the camera threads.

It also doesn't allow to free both hands when needed.

Hey Debbie,
Just got my RS-5 strap. Of course I had to go for a hike to test it. What a beautiful day here for a hike. About 70 degrees, no wind...... sorry got distracted by the weather. I LOVE this strap. The way it hangs on my hip, the fast draw, no crushing the girls. I just ordered another one for my brother for his birthday.
Thanks for all the input, once again you guys came through for me.

Amy,

Make sure you periodically check the thing that screws into the camera tripod hole is secure and tight. I have an older model that some people had trouble with. But that might have been because they didn't screw it in properly before turning the the round tightening screw/dial thing.

I think the current model being sold connects with a different attachment than what I have.

Glad that worked out for you. :D
