Doctors eyes for MACRO

Postby polanen » Fri Aug 21, 2009 2:45 pm

Hi,

Very interesting for macro photography

The Doctors Eyes ringlight has been created with the Medical profession in mind and Dentists in particular. That doesn't mean that us photographers can't rip them off, though.

Doctors Eyes Ringlight Specification

•Micro-processor controlled illumination for constant, maximum brightness
•12 levels of brightness
•Different LED segments can be lit independently
•Memory function for custom settings
•LCD display shows all ringlight functions
•Winglights are removable for a wider spread of light
•Micro-processor controlled fast charge

Hi Ab,

Very interesting. Do you have an idea of the cost? The one thing that I noticed is that this is a constant light source which means that effectively it is both modeling lamp and exposure lamp. The detriment to that aspect is for those of us that photograph with variable winds...a strobe would stop movement whereas a constant light source would not. Thanks for posting.

PS. My new 5D II is to be delivered Monday. Now if I can just get my legs back under me so I can use it.

Hi Donald,

The DoctorsEyes Ringlight Professional for SLR cameras has an SRP of £600.

Whow congrats with the new camera, I know you gona love the 5D mk2.

I am very curious, what you get out of the video.

I get good results now, in combo with the monopod. I render the mov files to avi with the latest AVS video editor.

Beware that you use a very fast memory card in the camera and switch out the IS mode.

I hope for you that you get your legs under you again, very soon.

I see your results with this monster.

Hope you get your legs back under you soon Donald, but until you do, if you need someone to babysit your new camera, just let me know .. I'd be glad to take care of it for you and "show it the sights"

I would love to have that light, but while I love to experiment in macro stuff, I can't justify that kind of cost for the amount I would use it (I'd love to have a high speed video camera too, however ... )

You can't have too many gadgets or too much disk space !!
mikey (PSP6, Photoshop CS6, Vegas Pro 14, Acid 7, BluffTitler, Nikon D300s, D810)
Lots of PIC and Arduino microprocessor stuff too !!

Thanks Ab and Mikey,

I'll find out in a little over two weeks whether the doc will let me off the walker or go through another surgery...I'll give Mikey's suggestion due consideration

I have been strongly considering the 100 macro lens that Ab has along with the Canon ring light...but I am sort of in Mikey's camp on that too. Ab's photos sure look great though and that is tempting... :P

Best wishes,
Donald Miller

Hi Donald,

It is not only a good macro lens, but with full frame also suitable for portret photography. :D
