Chrissy asked me to get her started in the art of "Grunge". Below are the brief instructions I sent her. Some may find it interesting to play around with...
First, go here:
http://tutorialblog.org/grunge-photoshop-tutorials/Second, get some grunge textures (pictures) and save them on your computer:
http://texturez.com/http://www.bittbox.com/http://www.polyvore.com/grunge_textures ... id=1241573Here is how I do it:
1 Open an image (portrait) in Photoshop.
2 Click on FILE PLACE (Find your grunge pictures) and select one (double click it)
3 It will appear over your original image with an X and handles on it.
4 Drag the corners out to fit over your original picture, then hit ENTER.
5 You will see that there are now two layers indicated on your layers dialogue on the side.
6 Make sure the texture layer is selected (highlighted) in the layers pallet.
7 Right click on the layer icon in the layers pallet, choose BLENDING OPTIONS.
8 A box will come up. Under BLEND MODE, try various choices - MULTIPLYy usually works best.
9 Select OK. You can play with the opacity and fill as well.
10 If the grunge is over the subject's face, you can use the eraser tool and a very soft edged brush set for about 35% to erase the grunge on the face and arms.
11 Play around with different grunge photos, each one will make the image look different.
12 You can also use the FILE PLACE to add more than one grunge layer to the image.
Play around with this and let me know if you are able to come up with a nice grungy image.
Blessings, ~al
