"Basket Weave Fun Experiments!"

Postby debngar » Fri Mar 07, 2008 12:53 pm

Not exactly a tutorial but this does describe the differences in the successive examples.

I had lot of fun with this. As Diana pointed out, the variations are endless depending on what adjustments you make to the mask layers. I fiddled with mask sizes, positions and rotation.

There is one mask used twice in each slide - one is inverted to create the basket weave effect.

The photo I used was always the same size though it was a introduced from a different position a couple of times.

Thanks to Steve (Prelo) who introduced the Basket Weave thread here:

http://www.proshowenthusiasts.com/viewtopic.php?t=6878

Also a big thanks to Diana (Dilyla) who provided the how to and checkerboard mask used in the experiments.

Now available again with a 3rd and final link - so sorry

Debbie, that reminds me of the kaleidoscopes I love so much. It's a nice effect to use, say, at the beginning or the end of show.

Once again, you dug right in there, studied the methods, and pulled it off very nicely!

I would not say I'd use this all the time but it was fun. Maybe it can be use for an interesting background under something if done more subtly. Or even used as a transition of sorts with multiple images under the masks that come in and out of view within one slide as the masks rotate back and forth. Goodness, the more I think about it, the more I want to go back and try more stuff. Too bad I have to get off my behind and actually get something done today!

Fun, Debbie!

Isn't it interesting what black geometric shapes/patterns are displayed from simple rotation or positioning?!

This might be one of the most useful techniques w/Producer I've ever created while being "sidetracked" from working! I'll guess I'll have to give some credit to my HS math teacher for instilling a love of geometry!

For those who might not have seen the original shows within the thread, here's quick links to Steve (Prelo) and my (dilyla) variations on the basketweave motion effects:

My mask is available for download within the original forum post Debbie linked to above. I will only leave it uploaded to my web site for about a week. Just right click and "Save As." I posted instructions on how to adjust the mask for the different effects a couple of posts up from where the mask is available.

Debbie -
Amazing and very fun!
Thanks for the inspiration!

Diana -
I think you do your best work on the sidetrack from working.
Having been a HS math teacher, I'm happy to know you had one who instilled a love of geometry.
The possibilities seem infinite (to use a mathematical term).

Cheers,
Sandy

I revised the show a bit. The ending was blah and needed more pizazz.

The link above has changed as well as the the viewing length - 2:32.
