creating transition from a mask

Postby natepenley » Mon May 27, 2013 10:10 pm

My daughter is graduating high school and is big time into music and band. I have created the music themed cut outs (music notes, instruments, clef symbols, etc.), but how can I use these as transitions where either the mask zooms in or out to reveal the full image below?

Have you ever made any other kind of transition before?
And if yes, what kind of transitions have you made?

I haven't made any transitions before. Still fairly new and learning as I go.

Well then, a good place to start understanding how to make transitions in general, is the help file of Producer Help > ProShow Help Documentation
Read the chapter named "Creating your own transitions". It gives you several examples.

Next, you would want to know something about masking (of course) and a bit about keyframing.

The effect that you want to achieve pretty much depends on your imagination, and knowledge of Producer.
For example, your graphics with musical notes, can just sit there in the middle of the slide, or, if you know how, they can come in from the the side, tilt, rotate, zoom in and out, and exit.

Cherub,
The effect I am looking to accomplish is something like the electric guitar transition found here:

http://www.palwebs.co.uk/pstemplates/fr ... ions1.html

Maybe just not as fast in and out.

I understand now.

I've saved that transition as a style, and you can download it from here:
https://www.yousendit.com/download/WFJY ... Q1I3czlVag

Apply this style, and try to understand how it is done.
You can replace that guitar with one of your music notes.

Hope this helps.

Cherub,
I have looked at the help file, not very helpful at all actually. I have looked at the style you made for me and I still don't understand turning this into a working transition.

Cherub,
I just tried it again and all I get is the cutout image, with no masking color applied. How can I send it to you so you can see what I did?

Actually, I think that you are doing it right.
The transition that you linked to above, is a simple one, and there are no colors in it.
The first slide exits through a guitar "form" that zooms out, and the second slide enters through a guitar "form" that zooms in. In between the two slides you see a black background.
So the guitar is the actual mask on top of your slides.

The red and blue gradients that he used are just indicatives, and are replacing your actual slides.
I marked which one is the SOURCE and which one is the DESTINATION.

When you make your transition, as explained in the help file, you must right click on the red and blue layers and choose either:
Use as Transition Layer > Source
OR
Use as Transition Layer - Destination

I repeat, there are no colors in that transition. The only colors that you should see, after you save the slide as a transition, are the colors of your own slides (pictures), that can be seen through the guitar mask.
