Jennifer

This was really helpful to an old guy. Can you just expand on the comment in the first part of the demo (Quad Band) where you say this one works OK for 4:3 and 16:9 - how do you know that?

John,

First, I always build everything in 16:9 NOT 4:3. Second, I make sure that all my layers are set to Fill Frame NOT Fit to frame. Doing this ensures that it will work with both aspect ratios.

I'll explain why for each step:

If you make the transition in 4:3 and expect it to work in a 16:9 show, everything will be stretched out or pulled apart. You're pulling a square to fit inside a rectangle.

The only reason the opposite isn't true is because I set the layers to Fill Frame. This ensures that the 16:9 aspect ratio will be kept in tact (the rectangle won't be squished into a square) and you'll just see the transtion as though you are peering at a rectangle through a square. Only the very outside will get cut off which, in this case, won't matter a bit :D

I hope I explained that well enough! If any of the other vendors who have been working with transitions have any additional input, feel free to chime right in! :D

Just one caveat that I've found, and it's that when you have something rotating down such as a vertical line down into horizontal, it doesn't necessarily work for both aspects regardless of starting with 16:9 and using Fill Frame. Why this is so is way beyond me, but I ended up having to create two versions for just this kind of situation. I tried everything I could think of to make one transition fit both ratios, but couldn't do it. :(

Jennifer, are you planning to do another video explaining how to use footage instead of images ?

I really hope so !!

I found this tutorial but I don't know if it will work the same with 4.5 :

I've gotten that request from a few people already...I'll be creating that tutorial on Monday or Tuesday.

The tutorial that Diana made was showing you how to use her videos in a slide. That's where you start with the transitions, but there are a few more steps to make it work right.

I'll try to have it up as soon as I can :D

Yes !
I knew it has to be something more than just those steps. I'll be waiting patiently, because I know is going to be good !

Thanks again :)

Jennifer, thank you for posting this tutorial. It was very helpful in my learning process. I used it to go one step further and was able to prepare a transition with the water drop avi from a different post. It works perfectly.

Jennifer, I had been working on converting some of my favorite
“slide styles” into “transition styles” when you released your tutorial.
Your tutorial clarified, cleared up issues, and sped up the process for me.

Sometimes a bit of tweaking is necessary but I’ve not come upon
any that can’t be converted so far, multi multi layers, masks, maybe just
beginners luck, I don’t know

Wish there was a way to convert "transition styles" to "style styles", let me know
if you figure that one out. :)

Just wanted to send my appreciation your way, and let you know
how you confirmed some processes.

Wonderfull and verry clear tutorial.
I'm relative new user of PSP but i love this tutorial.
I don't only learn making a transition, but also other handy ways to handle slides
