Re: transitions

When you've created your effect, the next thing you want to do, if you haven't already done so, is to identify what image/graphic layers are associated with the Outgoing (source) and which are associated with the Incoming (Destination) layers.

In the layer stack in Slide options, right click over a layer. In the popup menu hover over "Use as a Transition Layer." A submenu will appear with the options: Source Slide, Destination Slide, Source Slide (All Copies), Destination Slide (All Copies), and Copy Transition Type to Other Layers. Chose one .. say "Source Slide (All Copies)" ... then do it again but for the Destination Slide. All you're doing here is identifying the incoming and outgoing layers.

Once the source and destination layers have been identified, select "Slide Settings" under the slide options of the Slide Options window. When you do that, look below the preview window and to the right of the layer stack. You'll see a category called Slide Tools. Under that is "Create Transition" ... click on it. That will bring up a "Create A Transition" window. Give the effect a name. Select a Category in which to save the effect. If the Published By info is empty you might want to populate it ... along with the website if you have one. Next, decide if it's specific to your current show aspect or can be used with others. If it's only for the current show aspect, uncheck the Aspect Ratio Box. Finally, give the effect you created a description. Click on OK and you're done.

NOTE that transitions can't have transition times. So your work must not have a transition time on either side of the slide.

That's the gist of it. Jennifer wasn't wrong, the concepts and assignments are exactly the same. The problem between v4.5 and v5 is the significant change in the user interface. ... finding the same feature in v5 relative to v4.5 can be ... challenging. :D

Also, your outgoing (Source) and incoming (Destination) layers should probably be your images ... you CAN assign these flags to gradient/solid layers and masks and adjustment layers ... don't do it unless you are looking to create "interesting" effects. Focus on the images and let the masks, gradients, solids, adjustment layers, etc do what they do best...

Have fun!
