Working with text - tutorial

Postby RozReg » Sat May 22, 2010 6:37 am

Image over text

As you know the text layer is placed over the rest of the layers and one can’t place an image over a caption. However, you will sometimes want to have the caption under the image (for example, when a caption is just over somebody’s face on the picture). In this case you can use another caption and fill it with an image.
Here are two captions: one is ‘Tokyo’ and the other one consists of one symbol – a dot. The size of the caption with the dot must be big enough. We choose a picture as its texture and place it over the ‘Tokyo’ caption. Then we set up the Scaling Fill Character.

Image

To get a rectangular image we choose the Wingdings font and type ‘n’. In this case one can play with the Skew parameter to give the image some kind of a perspective.

The project is here:

Digital roses
Create a caption like this:
130465838728516566876980909809
981998261653998886516598766719
130653998556516546583872998261
818516566876980909809987667199
987165165130465838729982616539
818516598766009966876980909809
130465898738729982616539165165
139826165399870465838729164792
For a greater density of the caption reduce the Character Spacing and Line Spacing.
Choose a picture of a rose in png format as filling and set up ‘Scaling’ in ‘Fill Caption’. For the Text Effects set up the following values: for ‘Fly In’ and ‘Fly Out’ – ‘Curling’, for ‘Normal’ – ‘Wag Size’.

Image

Now set up the key frames:
Image

Add the rose image you used as the caption filling. Arrange the key frames of the appearance and disappearance of the rose.

The bee circus
The show consists of one slide.
Image

All the figures are made of dots. For example:
..........
. .
. .
..........
The dots are filled with images of a bee (Scaling Fill Character). The movements of the figures are set by key frames.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such an in-depth explanation. It's going to make every one of us take a very large second look at captions and their possibilities. I just now downloaded the project with plans for studying it and then spending my Saturday in full play mode.

Again, thank you!

You reduced something that looked complex and elegant to the relatively simple. Nice.

Thanx for the insight and showing us how you did it!

Awesome

I really didn't think all of this could be done with just playing with text.. How clever usage! Never too old to learn ! Thanks for such a great introduction to something so awesome. I think most of us kind of gave up after learning we couldn't treat text as layers. At least.. I did..

You are going to keep us all very busy.
I have a feeling that altough you are rather new to ProShow, you are going to regale us with spectacular shows.

Thank you.

Thanks for the creative inspiration! Your "Roz Caption Magic" technique spawned an idea in my head for a short intro to use in some of my animal shows! Awesome. It will be a quick enough piece that won't bore the viewer at the beginning of a show.

Now all I have to do is find the time to finish it and tweak the timing. I'll share a sample when I'm done.

Thank you again!
