Instructions: corkscrew-like motion using modifiers

Postby im42n8 » Sat Jan 03, 2009 7:29 am

To create a corkscrew-like motion using modifiers.
Reference show: http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewsho ... alb=135843

I will briefly discuss the top image of the last slide of my last demo show... the slide with the “corkscrew” image motion. The other images on that slide that move similarly use similar keyframe modifiers.

The slide is set for a slide time of 12s with a transition of 2s on the left and 1.5s on the right.
The layer transitions are set to cut.
Pan motion style is set to smooth (except for between kf6 and kf7: linear).
The image is sized to fit to safe zone and zoomed to 15%. There are 8 keyframes.
Kfs 1 and 2 are set to -33,-11. Kf5 and kf6 are set to 6.5,0. Kf7 and kf8 are set to -33, 11.

The timing of the keyframes are as follows:
Kf1:0s; kf2: 9.9s; kf3: 10s; kf4: 10.7s ; kf5: 11s; kf6: 14s; kf7: 14.5s; kf8: 15.5s

Kf1 and kf2 keep the zoom at 15%. Zoom changes automatically from kf3 to kf5. At kf5, the zoom is now 80%. It holds to 80% through kf6. At kf7 the zoom is back down to 15% and maintains it through kf8.

Modifiers are applied to kfs 1 through 4 in the pan x and y boxes.
To keep the later modifiers from impacting the location held by kfs 1 and 2, constants are applied to kf1 and kf2:

kf1 (x): +0.001, *1.00 // (y): +0.001, *1.
The 0.001 will resolve down to 0.00 (the modifiers keep to 2 decimal places only).

Kf2. Use the same settings as kf1 for both x and y

kf3. X. +Sine wave (1, 20, 0.25), *Sine Wave (4, 5, 0.75), *-1
Y. +Sine wave (1, 40, 0.5)
Note: the values are Sine Wave (frequency, amplitude, phase). Note that there isn't much fidelity in a phase referenced by the decimal number (minimum angle fidelity: 3.6 deg). A value of 0.25 is 90 deg. A value of 0.5 is 180 degree.

kf4. X. +2. This moves the layer a bit to the right to keep it from traveling over the column of images.
Y. None

kf5. X. -0.50 (a minor positioning adjustment to the left)
Y. 0.00, *1 (This halts a sinusoidal movement in the vertical between kfs 5 and 6)

kf6, kf7, kf8: no modifiers.

Good Luck (you'll NEED it!!!) :D

Dale

Thanks Dale,

This will give me something to do over the weekend.

I'm just begining to scratch the surface on these darn things, but hopefully with your postings and others on this forum It wi'll began to come together and make sense.

It does appear, though, that there are a few bugs that creep in just to make life interesting.

Dale, that was cool, but way beyond me. It will take me a month to wade through those instructions. You guys with the math brains amaze me. I will have to give it a good try and hopefully some of it will sink in. I was just beginning to understand masking and now look what you have done :?

Linda
