Audio/Video format converter

Postby Bob22 » Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:38 am

I'm a newbie to Producer and have been lurking for a while trying to absorb all I can. I was trying to save some youtube tutorials to my hard drive but found it to be more difficult than it should be. I found the following youtube downloader (freeware) at this link:

It worked great but the file was in .flv format. So I found another freeware program called Riva FLV Player. You can find it at this location.

Then I came across a really nice freeware program that converts most any audio and video from one format to another. It has all of the codecs built in. I have only used it to convert the youtube to mpgII format, but it worked great for that. It is called Super. Here's the link:

I love free programs that work.

Has anyone else used super?
It was suggested by someone but I did a search on the reviews and the reviews said some pretty negative things. Could have been that one site with reviews however. Good it has worked for you. I'm curious if anyone else has used it.

About "Super" - I tried it a couple of years ago, but I found the interface extremely unclear. I only tried to convert an audio and never tried it on video. Could be that since then it has improved.

As to converting flv to any video format - you must know that the loss of quality is extreme as the quality of flv flash/video is far from great.
If you add to this the conversion to mpg, which is also a lossy format, then your result is.... well....

As to the method of conversion proposed here, there are better ones.
For Firefox users there is the extension DownloadHelper. It comes with a converter.

A dedicated flv player is needed though.
