Audacity won't open

I just downloaded Audacity and the lame3 plug-in but I can't get it to open. When I try to open it I get a window that say's the following "Audacity.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Has anyone run into this before? If so, what was done to get it to run.
