Sonar 7 vs Adobe Audition

Any thoughts on which is the better program? Which is easier to use? I think I am going to download both and play with them but thought someone might already have an opinion. Thanks for any info, cheers Jan

I have Adobe Audition 1.0 (which is actually CoolEdit with Adobe's name on it).
Version 1.5 seemed to get good reviews, however, the postings I was reading
in the Adobe forums seemed like a fair amount of discontent with 2.0 I heard
that 3.0 was supposed to be out soon, but have not checked recently. You might
want to do some snooping - it could make a difference which one you were
looking at.

GoldWave isn't strictly-speaking freeware, but I can never know what the limitation is on the trial.
you can achieve most things you'd want to do without forking out a fortune.

I'm a step back from Mikey, using Cool Edit Pro, but my son thought Audition ought to be better and he tried it out. At the time, I think it was in version 2. He uninstalled it in complete disgust and went back to Cool Edit. I just checked Adobe's site, and it may be that they've improved things since last year.
I believe Adobe's trial versions aren't crippled, so you should be able to put their products through their paces.
Knowing what it is you'd like to do, Jan, I certainly suggest you get professional software of some brand or other.

It has been a month or so since I was snooping around the adobe audition
forums, but the general feeling I got was that version 1.0 was pretty good
(that was the CoolEdit rebadged with the adobe name), version 1.5 was
an improvement but version 2.0 sucked and there was much hope that
version 3 would be a step back in the right direction. I don't remember
all the complaints, but it was fairly one sided with the "I don't like 2.0"
group being the majority. You might want to snoop in the Adobe forums
for Audition and see what they are saying about 3. I figure I'll wait a
month or so and see what the users of it say before I consider upgrading.

I use Sonar for recording multitrack audio files, but for simple sound track editing, I use Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It is free, easy to use and great for editing existing stereo audio files or tracks.

Can't you record multiple tracks using Audacity?

Yes, you can. Audacity is pretty cool for quick editing straight forward and to the point I found it when looking for a program that would natively edit MP3's which is another reason to like it other than that I have been using Vegas or Nuendo.
