Sync slides to beat of music with DJ or others with layers

Sat Aug 04, 2007 8:05 pm

(also posted in the tips and tricks section)

For what it's worth, found a handy thing the other day with Digital Juice
Stax Trax (or any other sound media that supports "layers" like DJ does).
Some songs are really tough to sync to the beat since there is so much
other higher frequency stuff in the track you can't see the "beat" in the
waveform mode ( TAB ). What works well is to take your selection you
want to use from DJ, render it once as the full one then render the same
one again with only the drums or whatever you want to sync to enabled.
Put that one on your sound track, sync your slides to it as you want, then
replace it with the other one and there you go !! (while the base notes
are very obvious to your ears in a selection, they can be easily masked
in the waveform view with the other instruments and tough to find ).
If you don't have layered music available like DJ stuff (Stack Trax), you
could run it through your audio editor with a low pass filter to supress the
high frequency stuff also.

Hope someone finds this useful :D

What a great idea!!!

Wish I had thought of it. It certainly belongs in the file of "That would of made my life easier". I did a presentation for my church the other day that had a heavy bass that I wanted to synch the slides too. It took me hours to adjust the timings to match my eyes and ears. This would of saved a lot of time.

Heh - how do you think I found that ?? They say "necessity is the mother
(of invention)". I was getting very frustrated trying to synch my kids
swimming pix to the track I was using - couldn't see the beet in the
higher freq stuff, but it was sure obvious when I had it wrong. Gave
my new method a try and it worked great. It does require you to
have either layered music or an editor that allows you to "low pass"
filter the track so you get the beet though (but most audio editors
can do that).

[edit] I see my spelling is showing through again -- change "beet"
above (as in the veg. that grows in the ground) to "beat". Wasn't
it Mark Twain who made a comment about not having any use for
a man who could only spell a word one way ??

Mikey,

Excellent idea.

Howcome a guy who only hits a ball 40% of the time at bat is called a hero but a guy who spells nearly 70% of his words correctly is only called an engineer?
