3D Animation Software

Postby duglas50 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:18 pm

Tiger Direct is offering a product called Poser 7 which is a 3D animation and design software for $29.99 and will run thru today only. It's regular price is $249.99. I imagine they can do this because the new version Poser 8 is now out. I have no experience in 3D animation software but thought for $29.99 it might be worth experimenting with. Does anyone have any experience with this 3D software and its use with Pro Show Producer or any other advise that you can offer?

Thanks,
Doug

G'day all

If it's 3D software you want check out "True Space" it's totally free software. Have a look at their web site there are plenty of tutorials as well. http://www.caligari.com/

Hi,

I don't know anything about Poser but have recently acquired Reallusion's IClone and am really enjoying it--though I have just begun to scratch the surface. I have enjoyed CrazyTalk and feel that IClone certainly takes it a step farther.

This is a very short show combining IClone and Producer that I did for a little girl group get-together that I am hosting in March. I am planning to use a series of short shows as "teasers" for my girlfriends about the activity.

It is just 40+ seconds long and contains no objectionable content.

Ann, that's so very cool! I just checked it out and saw there are two versions of IClone. Are you using the Pro or the Standard version?

Barbara,

Thanks! I am using IClone Version 4 Pro. Pro has a timeline, which the standard version doesn't have, allowing one to have more control over movements, etc. I have just "scratched the surface," however, and am trying to learn the interface. It is really a fun program. I had acquired CrazyTalk Animator at Christmas, which is CrazyTalk's quite new 2-D program but wasn't as enchanted with it as I am IClone. It is like I really needed another program to keep me hunched over the keyboard!!! I am thinking that I will use IClone to communicate special things and events to friends. I also like the fact that I can export the little actors as transparent .gif animations and use them in Producer shows outside their little scenes. Also, it interfaces with CrazyTalk 6 so that I can really sync voice and facial movement--if I ever get proficient enough to do so.

Some time ago, I tried a 3-D program, but I just couldn't get the hang of the gridwork in it that was used to build structures and figures. Does IClone have such a gridwork, and if so, do you ever get lost in it? I'm so attracted to this kind of program but am also so easily confused by it.

Carl,
Thanks for the information and link for "True Space". That looks like the way to get started in 3D. I see that they have a ton of detailed video tutorials explaining everything and it's all free. I may just have to give that a try.

Iclone (their description) is a 3d movie making machine. Iclone provides a stage on which to build a set and move objects and actors/models around. There is a fair amount of free content and a huge catalog of content you can purchase. 3d stuff other than Reallusion needs to be run through their conversion program in order for it to work with their format. I have Iclone 4 and am thinking about getting the 3dxchange software to be able to take advantage of the freebies that Google and others have available.

My main problem with learning and using Iclone and Crazy talk is that I am a confirmed software junky tend to get distracted easily, and therein is the problem, you can teach an old dog new tricks, it just takes longer. I started on an Iclone project a while back, and about that time got a couple of new filters for photoshop--------

I'm thinking I should stay clear of 3-D, not because it isn't filled with wonderful illusions, but because it IS, and that's right up my alley. Conclusion: It's probably a very dangerous thing for me to be thinking about because I'd get distracted--really, really badly distracted.

Darn.

Yes, that could be a problem, even when I don't quite know what I am doing I have fun doing it.

And that right there is probably why most of us don't read the directions until we've exhausted all possibilities and turned ourselves into mental pretzels.

Here is what 3-D is capable of. Wow! I don't dare wander down this path, not only would I have to give up what remaining little sleep I get, but eating, family, work, and a life.
