DIVX to DVD Question ??
Hi
I have some Divx movies on my hard drive. Sometimes it would be nice to view them on the big screen with the whole family. How would one go about burning these files to a Dvd and is it possible to do it without cost FREE
Any help is appreciated
Ron
PS: I downloaded AVS Free Converter (53MB) turns out its free to download but not to use ... hate those deceptive ads!!!! I uninstalled all of it.

Re: DIVX to DVD Question ??
Hi! Some DVD players can read DivX, so you can burn a DVD with your DivX movies, with Nero for example as a data DVD. Also with Nero you can make a DVD-video. Nero is not free but I think is well known.

Re: DIVX to DVD Question ??
Hi Ceceilia
My DVD players refuse to play the DIVX - If Nero was free I would - I lost my Roxio 2009 as its not compatiblr with Win 7 and they want full price for the Roxio 2010, its on my shopping list for June, so until then I need a FREE converter
Thanks Ron

Re: DIVX to DVD Question ??
Have you considered SUPER? It's free.

But . . . . .I downloaded it to test if it could take an avi and create a png sequence from it. It could, but I think it conflicted with my Adobe Encore so I deleted it.
btw, I use TMPGEnc Xpress 4 to convert divx and xvid to mpeg-2 for dvd's, but it's not free.

Re: DIVX to DVD Question ??
Yeah, I checked out the AVS game a while back with their "clever wording". I was suspicious after reading their licensing so I asked them a couple of direct questions - one of which was, if I rebuild my computer with a new motherboard etc, can I put the AVS software back on the new system (still only on one system). Their answer was no - basically if you change the hardware so it is a new system, you have to buy their software all over again. I don't think that's gonna happen on my end I was not impressed with what they were offering or their licensing terms.

Re: DIVX to DVD Question ??
Here is another solution which utilizes only freeware: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive ... vi2dvd.cfm
To get AVI2DVD: (http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.php?b2=1
You will need to download and install a codec pack before converting, if you haven't already done so. I use the standard klite codec pack from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_l ... c_pack.htm You should probably have that on your computer in any case as it allows you to play many kinds of video files on your computer.
By the way, if you ever need to convert from one file format (say DIVX to Mpeg, etc.) use another freeware program: Format Factory. http://www.formatoz.com/index.html
However, I think the best solution is to buy one of the Media Players (see this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13527 started by Mikey) that allow you to view almost any kind of video file directly on your TV. That is not a free solution, but these things are relatively cheap (If you already have an external hard drive, you are looking at under $100) and extremely handy for watching any kind of file. In particular, they are nice for watching Proshow ISO files as if they were already burned to DVD.

Re: DIVX to DVD Question ??
Ron,
There is one other approach that has not been mentioned. If your computer has a HDMI output and your televisioin has a HDMI input you can use your computer as the player to output DivX directly to your television...provided you have the DivX codec on your computer. DivX has some definite benefits.

Format Factory is a great free program for converting just about anything.
