Timelapse Videos

Postby charlie4031 » Tue Mar 02, 2010 9:23 pm

Hi guys :)

I posted this on my blog the other day and thought of sharing it here. I found this good source of free timelapse videos you can use for your shows. It has a good collection of timelapse clouds and other stuff. It's free for commercial and non-commercial use and registered under the creative commons license. You might want to check it out.

Hi Charlie,

They are very nice clips. I have downloaded one NTSC clip. They are JPEG photos. How do I make them to a video clip.

Check out the FAQ page at

for comments on converting to video format. Very nice looking stuff - thanks for the link !! Too many projects

[edit] it looks like some of the NLEs such as Vegas will import a jpeg (or png) sequence directly to their timeline as long as they are a sequential set of images.

You can't have too many gadgets or too much disk space !!

Hi,

i found two tools for converting to video format:

MovieSalsa: http://www.imagesalsa.com/MovieSalsa/ - is shareware

and

Photolapse: http://home.hccnet.nl/s.vd.palen/index.html - is for free.

Moviesalsa is a shareware. I am curious - Is it safe?

Ive just quickly tried making one into a video file using a familiar program called proshow producer - load all the individual photos into proshow, set the transition at Zero ( right click select all ) and set each slide for 0.030 seconds duration ( right click all) output type mpeg2 1280x720.

With photolapse, I am getting the error message when I click create files - "DontUseErrorChecking
FPS15" inspite of my not checking for error message and setting at fps 15. Looks like a codec problem???

Do I need new codecs for this avi. Can you pl suggest a reliable site from where I can download codecs for avi used in this program.

It is good to know that video file can be created from the producer. Since these files are huge, I may try with a small file.

Tks for the info

If you have the Pro version of Quicktime you can use that to process the JPEGs into videos. I haven't tried other applications yet. Maybe some of the other members in the forum could help.

Now why didn't I think of that! Thanks Richard for this tip. :D
