Photo shop

Postby lee-anne » Mon Mar 23, 2009 7:18 pm

Hi I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I am slowly learning to use photo shop to help with all my photos. Just wondering if anyone knows how to create coloured and black and white out of a coloured photo. Say leave a little girls dress red but the rest of the photo black and white? I was told a long time ago but just can't remember all of it :( thanks so much for this great forum by the way :D

Lee-Anne,

One way is to use a color image layer with an identical b&w image on top. Make a mask on the b&w (top image) and use your brush to paint black over the part you want to be color. Of course, you can just use a color image and duplicate that layer and then desaturate the duplicate copy to get a b&w copy. (You can do the same thing without a mask--just by erasing the portion of the top image that you don't want, but it is destructive where the mask isn't--you can paint back in mistakes using the white.)
