How to use scrapbooking elements with PSP

Postby ladyt » Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:19 am

In various posts there are mentions of using digital scrapbooking elements with PSP. I have never scrapbooked--digitally or otherwise--but am interested in taking advantage of all kinds of design elements with PSP4.

Can someone explain how you use scrapbooking elements with PSP? What are some of the best sites for nice elements?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Gladys :D

Digital scrapbooking files vary in format. Because the digital craft sprang from a traditional craft, there are certain aspects/sizes that have been carried over e.g. backgrounds are still predominantly square - because a lot of digital scrappers go on to have their scrapbooks printed out by specialist printers. So, if using square background papers in PSP you need to take care to avoid any design elements being stretched out of proportion.

Most elements are PNG files i.e. they are images with a transparent background. I know you are familiar with the wedding template I made - well, that consisted of a background I created myself, especially to fill the 4:3 screen format of PSP, but the other elements i.e. the ribbon and the bow, were basically just PNG files... the sort of file used in digital scrapbooking. Because there are areas of transparency, you can simply use them as layers within PSP and build up quite a pleasing result.

There are hundreds of digital scrapbooking sites Gladys. A lot of them provide freebies, such as this one to which you can sign up and receive a free kit every Friday - just to get you started - but search and you will find many, many more:

Have fun!
