Try to avoid 1080x720 pics with that flip book. It is quite jittery to watch. The pictures at 640x480 look fine to me. Higher resolutions
have issues.

I resized pictures.....worked nice. Saved as uncompressed video, file size was huge...1.Gig. Would compressed be smaller? Don

I have not played with that, but one of the tricks when working with
"compressed things" (lossy type compression) is to minimize the
number of compressions. Like multiple edits of a jpg file. Your
intermediate file that you are importing may be huge, but it should
not have any impact on the final DVD since that does it's own
compression (to mpeg-2) when it builds the DVD. The less compressions
in series the better. Off to Fry's for you for another 400 gig disk !!
If you compress it now, then again to the DVD, you are introducing
more artifacts (and losing detail typically).

For example, the DV format from most consumer camcorders
( 12+ gigs per hour ) is already compressed about 5:1

You can't have too many gadgets or too much disk space !!
mikey (PSP6, Photoshop CS6, Vegas Pro 14, Acid 7, BluffTitler, Nikon D300s, D810)
Lots of PIC and Arduino microprocessor stuff too !!

Mikey,

this is why I edit with my NEF files as long as I can before saving it as a TIFF in Photosgop CS2. Yes, Tiffs are large but they hold the quality the viewer prefers. And when they are compressed to Mpeg2 via the DVD processing, the viewer once again sees the minimal loss of quality on arrival of the finished product. This is why, I shoot in the raw with my Nikon D-70 and refrain as much as possible in editing Jpegs. For layering photos and effects I save in PSD.

Agreed - my comment was addressed more at Don's (weldr) comment
about compressing the video before using it in Proshow (or at least
that was the way I thought he meant it). I usually just shoot in hi res
jpg on my D70s - the increased size of the NEF isn't worth it *for me*
based on how I usually use the pictures (and I have lots of pix from
my kids soccer teams last year ( 5000 files and 11 gigs just for 2006 ).
As I say in my signature "you can't have too much disk space"

Mikey,

I just got treated to a nice Photoshop Plug-in called Fluid Mask 2.0
Looks terrific but the tutorials need to be reviewed. It does great cut outs in PS CS2-saves a load of time too!!

Hey, that looks impressive (don't the ads always?). $199 is a
bit much, but maybe Photodex will buy it for me since I just
lost $300 to them

I did just buy photoshop CS2 a month or so ago, but have not
had a chance to work with it with all the other tasks that needed
to be done at Christmas (Calendars etc for the family). I'll be
interested in your evaluation of Fluid Mask -- sure looks nice !

 Very true -- actually I was just wandering around a bit trying
to get a starting idea for my son's Eagle DVD that I have to do.
I think I may start with a heartbeat sound and the video of the
ultrasound and some captions like "once upon a time (17 years
ago), not very far away (less than a mile actually) a young boy
named Eric was born" and then move on into the show (yes, I
still have a VHS tape of the ultrasound a month or so before he
hatched !!)
