Tilting onto my face

Postby BarbaraC » Sat Jul 14, 2012 10:50 am

Am I the only one who always--never fails--moves the sliders the wrong way when adding Tilt to a layer? There's something not at all intuitive about which way to go. Finally, I drew a little picture on a sticky note that I can refer to until, maybe someday, it becomes embedded in my brain. Here's what my little note looks like, each triangle representing which side gets bigger and which gets smaller. (The actual note is less than lovely to look at.)

Maybe it'll help you, too.

Thanks Barb!! For some reason I have a hard time wrapping my mind around this also.

Horizontally, if we move right, the right side gets bigger, and if we move left, the left side gets bigger. That's something not too difficult to remember (for anyone other than me, that is), but going left and right when we're talking about up and down is just plain confusing. :(

I approached Photodex on this from a user point of view. The changes to make it more intuitive, according to them, could result in some unintended consequences. So, mathematically, the rotation is clockwise when the layer is viewed from:

• The top for Tilt-hz and
• The left for Tilt-vt

So, any tool the user can get to short circuit the process of getting the desired tilt is welcome indeed!

So, Mona, you're vertically and horizontally challenged too! I'm beginning to feel better about having to draw pictures. :D

Right now I'm only challenged by the awful heat wave that's going on over here, and doesn't let me sleep :D
I'm usually not roaming the forums at these hours....

The U.S. is also going through a heat wave, but I'll bet ours can't compare with yours. Nevertheless, you have all my sympathy. If it's cold, we can put on more clothes, but if it's hot, what do we do? Take off our skin?

Having a vertical slider for vertical tilt would be nice and IMO make the most sense. Slide it down to have the top tilt forward. Slide it up for the top to tilt back, away from normal.

Debbie, you and I are on the same page. The problem is, of course, that a vertical slider would take up a lot of space, so they'll probably never do it. :(
