G'day

As far as I'm aware the forum book has not been updated but is still quite relevant. There is a version 5 manual available for download from the Photodex web site:
http://files.photodex.com/docs/manuals/ ... ducer5.pdf

As Carl noted, the Forum book was put together in v3.2 so any menu selections and whatnot would require you to figure out what they would be for the ProShow version you're using. The content, however, is definely still relevant.

Putting together that little gem was a considerable amount of work and was done by BarbaraC and another (who's name escapes me right now... she did the actual publishing ... while BarbaraC did all the writing and putting together the content).

Rumor has it that Phototdex is working on an update to their Secrets of ProShow Experts book to provide v5 relevant updates. I have no idea when it's expected for release but it should be out in a few months. (Ha! By then we'll all be experts on the new UI! :) )

The Forum Book was written while I was in bed for several months with a bad disc in my back. I'd prefer never having such a reason to write a book again. :D

AMEN!! August 2010, I herniated the disk at L4/L5 (lower back) and spent better than 3 months perched in the living room rocking chair popping Percocet like candy. That is NOT a pleasant experience  (the good news was that sitting there with my camera, I managed to get all sorts of good bird pix of ones we didn't realize lived around here ... from now on though I would rather go out looking for them !! )

Barbara,

I KNEW I was missing something when I responded! I should have noted that others had contributed as well and that you incorporated as well wrote material. I suppose I should note too that I inspired your input on masking ( 8), however oblique ...! ).

I did NOT know that you were basically bed-ridden at the time. Heck of a way to keep your mind off the disk! (Holy toledo!)

Heck, Dale, you're still inspiring me, though it's now in the realm of modifiers.

I'm not sure what I down loaded is a "forum" book; but it's a 300+ page manual that focuses on Version 5!!

I believe it was developed by Photodex, not the forum.

Just a tip for those of you who pay for a hard copy of discs and such.

I personally wouldn't bother to pay for the discs as the builds often change quite frequently which makes the inve$tment in the disks instantly worth no more than a plastic coaster. The builds are meant to help fix bugs and such and are often best to update when possible. Ok, this last year was an exception as we had very few updates. Historically speaking, that's not often been the case though as Photodex tries to fix what needs fixing and seems to release builds as soon as they can.

I did the same thing in the beginning, paying for disks and a hard copy of the manual etc. back when I first bought version 2.x. But it wasn't long before the program was updated shortly after that. The manual hard copy was fine but honestly I was just as able to find things in the electronic version and don't have to find a place to store the manual now. :D

Even though the free "Forum Book" was written a while back during version 3 era, it has some great basic info than any newbie can make good use of if one doesn't mind having to look past the outdated parts.

Those outdated parts are mostly in the form of the screenshots. It wasn't too bad when we went to versions 4 and 4.5, but version 5 looks utterly different. That said, a mask is still a mask, and a keyframe is still a keyframe. Panning still pans, zoom still zooms, and rotation still rotates. So all the basics are there. Just don't dare look at those pictures!
