captions behind photos?

Postby JETA » Mon Nov 21, 2011 3:36 pm

I'm hoping this is a simple question.

How do I get captions to run behind my photos? I cannot find a place where I can designate the caption layer to be beneath my photo and video layers. My captions are the first layer and run over my pics. I want it to run under. Hope this makes sense and thank you!

At this time captions are always on top but there can be multiple layered captions. They're just stuck being on top of images unless you use a work around of sorts.

Doing a search for +captions +underneath will result in a number of threads about this. Everyone wants the feature but the program doesn't allow captions below image layers at this time unless you make the caption an image itself.

As deb stated, you must create a layer outside of PSP. It really is a simple process to make a text layer in some type of software like photo shop, publisher or any other that supports transparency. Make sure you save the file as a .png and simply add it like you would any other layer.

I would add that if you use photoshop and are saving for the web, to make the filesize smaller, you should choose png 24 and check the transparency box. Png 8 doesn't support as many colors and may cause you problems such as artifacts especially in areas with gradients such as drop shadows.

Just to add to the small pile of information, here's an article I did over on ProShowThink called Caption Masks 101 for Producer.

It's faster to just plain avoid Save for Web, saving directly as a PNG, which defaults to PNG24.

You are right. I tend to forget that it doesn't matter for making a slideshow. I often use .pngs for transparent images to use for webpages etc., and the difference in file size is tremendous making an image that is 10mb become less than 1/5 of the size with not any noticeable difference. I've become so used to it, that I always save for the web, be it .png or .jpgs unless I'm printing which I do through Lightroom, so the issue doesn't come up.

Hope I didn't confuse the original poster.
