Designing a Web Site
I'm looking at ways to design and get a quick web site started and have come across a company called Homestead. This is their web site: http://www.homestead.com/?s_cid=GC23059. I was wondering if anyone has heard of or had any experience with this company? Are there other companies like this one that you would recommended?
It looks like this would be a very quick and easy way to get a web site started. What do you think?
Thanks
Doug

Doug, take a look here: http://www.top-10-web-hosting.com/
There are a lot of hosting companies out there, and you have to find what's best suited for you, which you can do only by informing yourself.

Re: Designing a Web Site
Hi Doug,
What purpose are you planning your website for?
If it for a possible future business then you will need a domain name to promote a prof image www.dougsbusiness.com? (or any other .net .biz etc). You'll then need to sign up with a host co & put your website there. There are freebies and up, but remember, you get what you pay for. I recently signed up with www.2ip.com ($25 for lifetime hosting - there up-time was unreliable, often down for hours so have now walked away from that deal)
Other are available from $3/month & include a domain name.
As you are on the net, ISP's normally include space for personal or small websites.
Sorry but don't have any experience with other sites mentioned.

Re: Designing a Web Site
Thanks for all your info. After looking at a number of web hosting sites I think I am going to give Homestead a try. It appears that they make designing your site very easy with thousands of templates to get you started and then dragging and dropping in your content. Being such a novice at this I really need simple step by step guidance and it looks like this would be the easiest way to get started.

Re: Designing a Web Site
Doug,
If you are ever in need for some very easy web page software I suggest Web Page Maker is an easy-to-use web page editor that allows you to create and upload web pages in minutes without knowing HTML. Simply drag and drop objects onto the page and position them freely in the layout. It comes with some pre-designed templates that help you to get started. It also includes ready-to-use navigation bars that can be inserted into the page. Additional features include built-in color picker, Java script library, image library and built-in FTP client. http://www.webpage-maker.com/
If you needed something fast and easy ran cross this and got my web site up in hours not days if you like check it out.

Re: Designing a Web Site
I'm using Ewisoft's software for my site.
It's easy to use, and free if you allow the last tab to link to the company's web site.
It comes with some free templates.
If you buy your hosting at Godaddy.com for less than $50/year through their website, they'll give you the software and one premium template for free.
