Are you in the business of selling DVDs?

Postby stickgirl » Mon Apr 21, 2008 6:40 pm

How many of us who make and sell DVDs for a living are paying royalties to MPEG LA for the MPEG2 technology you are using?

I just did a search on MPEG LA, and though most of it was written in legalese, the impression was that the patents involve companies, not individuals. The lawsuits I saw were directed toward manufacturers using the technology inside their products.

Hi

Check out this thread from a while ago

http://www.proshowenthusiasts.com/viewt ... =mpeg#5645

Brian makes an interesting comment regarding the actual cost per DVD if the license was enforced

In reading the thread Iris pointed to, I caught the notion that I might be all right with my DVD's since I use Sony Architect to do them, not Producer. Now I'm more than curious and will have to locate the agreement I never bothered to read. :D

It sounds to me that if you produce DVD's from your computer from any program for any commercial purpose, you owe a royalty! I just wonder how many of these royalties are ever actually collected.
