650 Slides

Postby Photojoe » Sun Feb 17, 2008 8:18 am

I have a client asking to have 650 old slides scanned, enhanced in my Photoshop CS3 and then a slide show in ProShow Producer made.

My question is; should I charge by the slide and how much each. It will take some time and I am not too sure what a fair price would be.

Any suggestions???

Thank you all,

Joe

Joe,
that is alot of work
For starters ....say 1 million in cash & that does not include lunch
well its all about time
What is your time worth?
Are you able to delegate some of the work or are you doing this all by yourself?
How long to scan?
How much photoshop is needed?
Slide show ...simple ,more advanced?
Did they give you a budget to work with?
If they only want to spend $100.00 bucks.........perhaps you could refer them to someone you do not like
When do they need it?
buisiness-personal?
Good luck...hope this helps some

I did a job around Christmas time for someone that found my site over the internet. She had 600 photos that I needed to scan and she needed 6 copies of the show. I charged her $1.00 a photo with minor corrections and then I charged her $10.00 for each copy of the DVD after the first one. She thought the price was very fair. I made $650.00 and we both were very happy. I didnt charge for title pages or motion backgrounds. I just did a striaght $1.00 a photo. I think that made it simple for both of us. Good luck and remember your time is valuable.

I charge 50 cents per scan. 650 photos...translates into $325. It takes a lot of time, but I'm afraid to send someone's photos out to a place I don't have any experience with.

I wish I knew of a scanner that I could just feed a stack of photos into. Any suggestions?

Rosemary

PS. this is in addition to the $1.75 p/image charge ...so for 650 scanned photos total show w/b $1,462.50

Rosemary,

Just wanted to mention that on my scanner you can get 2, 3, or even 4 photos on the bed at one time. The scanner will recognize that they are sperate as long as they are not touching and give then seperate numbers. This will save you a little time. I have a Epson RX580. You might already know but thought I would pass it along.

Thanks Colleen!!

I'm going to look into the RX580. I'm using an old Canon.

How long does it take for each scan?

It is hard to say but I would have to guess approx. 1 min. It runs a scan over the entire bed and then runs through each one seperately. I use 300 DPI. The other great thing is that you can print directly to a printable DVD.

Goodluck!

Colleen
