Need an inexpensive logo created

Postby petezamory » Mon Feb 12, 2007 9:08 am

Might anyone know of a person who could create a logo? Don't have much to spend however. Thanks.

Once when we needed a logo, we went to the High School's Marketing teacher and she had her class work on it for us. It turned out quite well and they loved the experience.

If you're going to create and use a logo for business purposes, you should consider registering it with the Patent Office as a Trademark to protect it against use by someone else.

Check Vidqueen! www.choicebackgrounds.com. I gave her my logo that I created and the idea I wanted and she animated it. She also creates. She is in Vegas right now, but email her. She is VERY reasonable.

Local High School or College also good idea. When I took Photoshop at the college, our projects were ads for local businesses that got them for free....the ones chosen got an automatic 'A'! We had some brilliant stuff created. I know the graphics design department did the same thing.

Good luck.

You can also try a software package called AAA Logo. It is extremely cheap and with a little time and effort, you can create some pretty awesome logos.

Attracting Business

Postby petezamory » Tue Aug 21, 2007 2:50 pm

Thanks to all for the offer to help. I am very frustrated in trying to drum up new business. I have emailed hundreds of people, done "free" shows (i.e. college reunion), mailed out demo DVDs to funeral homes, businesses, realtors, photographers, etc. but very, very few people are interested. I even took a table at a craft fair and did not get one single request for a DVD.

Is my work that poor? I doubt it. It may not be broadcast television quality, but certainly many people have remarked about how nice the shows are.

Perhaps there simply isn't the demand for this service in my area.

Any thoughts?

It's interesting to try and figure out what does (or does not)
interest people sometimes. I shot about 1400 pictures of
most of the kids on the swim team in action. Many of the parents
commented this year that they really appreciated the pictures I
had taken last year showing all the close ups etc. The coach
put together a video this year as usual (and about 90 % of the
pictures in it were mine). Everybody loved it. We sent out an
email to all the parents telling them if they were interested, to
contact me and I would give them a copy off all the pictures.
In addition, if they were interested, I would put together a DVD
of their kids - all they had to do was sort through and give me
a folder back with theirs selected. The response was a grand
total of 0. I did put together about 5 dvd's of the people/kids
I knew and they loved them. No one else even got back to
me -- for FREE !!

There are two parts to doing these sorts of things - be it slide shows,
photography or whatever:
1) satisfying YOUR need to accomplish whatever goal you have set.
2) interest others in what you are doing or provide a service.

Sometimes you just have to be happy with #1 and do the best you
can at it. Take satisfaction in doing the best you can and learning
new skills. It doesn't pay the bills, but it can still give you a warm
feeling that you have done something nice.

Sort of rambling I guess, but I can relate - you may have a great
product, you just have not found the market yet.

Pete,

Just a few ideas for you and you can take them or leave them. The pricing should be more straight forward. I would either incorporate all fees into the package price and base it on number of photos. Do not charge extra for captions. I have changed my pricing to a per (digital) photo price. It is the only thing that someone will know pretty much when contacting you. As long as the can mutiple, they know where they stand.

Also, might want to have someone (a professional) look at your website. I am updating mine after talking to someone about how things should look and what is best for search engine opimization.

You could also look at advertising but it could get expensive. You could start with doing a free link swap with the many wedding, party planning, reunion websites out there.

That is my two cents. Good Luck!

Thank you

I appreciated the advice from Mike & Colleen. Yes, I can upgrade the web site and change the pricing but I suspect it won't make any difference. As Mike said, it's hard to even give something away for free.

I guess that I will take solace in the fact that I can do these shows for my own personal enjoyment and leave it at that.

Best wishes.

Mike,

Regarding your story I had a question. Did you have any DVD's available when the coach played the video for the parents and kids? Did you set up a table and have them for people to take with them? I am just curious. Also, maybe you could offer a discounted price if the order was placed on that night. I would think most parents would want a show of their children but maybe I am naive.

No, although they have seen my stuff in the past and they realized that
most of the pictures in the video the coach put together were ones I had
taken (it was only two days after the last event - it was hard enough getting
the pictures to the coach in time to do his video). I have been here in
the past though with the soccer teams etc. I make video DVD's of all of the
best shots of the kids and give them out to the parents at the end of the
season. They all seem to like them and I get a number of favorable comments
back from them (as well as asked if I am going to do it again next year).
I can see them not rushing in to purchase a video, but when they are of their
kids and for free ?? The ones I have given them to (where I was sure who
was who - tough with water splashing all over, goggles and a swim cap) and
they loved them. Ah well, I just do it for the fun anyway (I started taking
the pictures just of my kids and the coaches saw what my pictures looked
like and asked me to shoot everyone for them). It was just interesting that
even when offered for FREE, not one person even contacted me (they sent
out my email and phone number with my offer to do it).

Such is life - the ones I do it for love it and I get shows done for my kids
so we can look back on it later -- I certainly am not looking for something
to keep me busy!
