The New Camera so far....and new site

Postby nannybear » Thu Apr 01, 2010 5:39 pm

First off! thanks to all who helped me decide what I needed to buy. You are all awesome and were a fantastic help. Here is what I finally ended up with:
Canon EOS 7D Body
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Zoom Lens
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

Totally blew my little pea brain when I got the gear, have never been blessed with such fabulous equipment and just want to do it proud. New website is up and running, still working on the studio aspect and still have tons to learn but onward I go! On another "Portrait " session this weekend for another canine. I love taking pics of animals. Would love to be around more but until I get to retire that's not going to happen. Lots of marketing ideas I will share when I find out which ones work and which ones didn't. I call her "Lucy" for no idea why, but she and all her gear have their own "roller suitcase" cause it all weighs a bunch! After Las Vegas, I was not hefting that on my old shoulders for 12 hours.

So off I go, have a fabulous Easter for those that celebrate it and an awesome weekend to all!!! hugs and cheers Jan

Way to go Jan !! While I have not seen the Canon 70-200 F2.8, if it is anything like the same lens in the Nikon, that sucker can build some serious are muscles working with it. I know the Nikon one is very highly thought of ( it should be for about $2,300 for the new version) - I would assume the Canon version is in the same class.

If you have not already, I would suggest getting a good book on that camera and read the book, fiddle with the camera then re-read the book again. There are so many options and settings in these things that all can make the difference between getting the shot or not. Nothing like some serious experimenting to get to know the camera.

You can't have too many gadgets or too much disk space !!

Lots of PIC and Arduino microprocessor stuff too !!

You are so right Mikey! I am blessed to have so many mentors, yourself being one, and I am not sitting on auto. I play, read the book, play, read the book again and so on... My one mentor, actually down the road from me, who is a very successful photographer, has imparted much wisdom from when he was learning. One is to shoot with one focal length in B/W only ( haven't done that yet!). Helping to develop the composition part of my brain. He is also helping me on the lighting aspect for those of us in Canada....and my particular studio space.
I know I will miss someone, but just to name a few....
Mikey
Al Cain
Mike Gregg
Debbie
Shaz
Barbara C, my sister, Hunny B, who is always there to critique and share her incredible graphic design wisdom ,
and so many more, and also all those who have helped hone my Photoshop skills. Again, I am so blessed to have you all in my people garden and appreciate it more than I can say with words!! Hopefully to retire in 5 years, so I can hang here way more often, I wish you all an incredible weekend how ever you want to celebrate it. Please take the time to visit the new site and let me know your thoughts as I grow and learn in a new direction!!!

Hugs and love, Nannybear!

Jan

Pleased to hear from you again, you have been a busy girl. New camera, new website and new studio ... you definitely need those extra four hours in a day.

The new website looks good and easy to navigate, love the pictures ... is the water in Lake Mead really that low now? :o Seems to get lower as the years go by.

Yes Brian, unfortunately it is a huge issue being that low. It is not recovering and now California, Arizona and Nevada are all arguing over who should have control and who should get the water that's left. Pretty sad actually. So good to hear from you as well. I have missed everyone and hope to stay in touch more. That darn ole life just keeps getting in the way of cyberspace! LOL  It is a huge storm here and I was set to go on a shoot but I think we are going to move indoors and see what I can pull off. Hugs and kisses!! Jan
