Shopping cart recommendations
I've been in IT for over 30 years but there is always something new to learn!
My web site hosting company supports three shopping cart solutions, all of which are compatible with PayPal. Any recommendations or insights as to the pros and cons of these would be appreciated:

Re: Shopping cart recommendations
Hi Mark,
I use OS Commerce via CRE Loaded. Love, love, love it http://www.choicebackgrounds.com
If I have any problems with my website, its usually due to the fact that I use a predesigned template that is very hard to change (especially since the owner, moi, is HTML illiterate!). But the back end of my store (CRE Loaded) gets two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Re: Shopping cart recommendations
Jennifer -
Wow. There's a lot of stuff in this app. Maybe all I need is one check box:
--- YES - I want you to create a show for me
Well, I saw that there's a community forum. Any admin manuals available? I didn't see any at the osCommerce or forum sites, but I won't be able to spend much time digging deeper until later. Just thought I'd take a minute to post the question.
Thanks!

Re: Shopping cart recommendations
Mark,
There really isn't a whole lot of help for CRE, I'm afraid.
I guess I should have asked what you would be selling....
If you're creating a website where you are selling your services, you probably don't really need a whole shopping cart system like I have. If you have a Pay Pal account, you can actually just create a Pay Pal button and/or virtual terminal on individual pages. That way, you can have, maybe, one page where people order your services and you just have Pay Pal buttons for the different levels of service you provide.
Look at this page on Pay Pal:
https://merchant.paypal.com/cgi-bin/mar ... p_standard
Scroll down and you'll see the "Buy Now" button. If you're starting a Slide Show Service website, you'll probably only sell one product/service at a time anyway (but maybe have different price levels), so you really don't need a shopping cart where people add multiple products.
Am I correct in my assumptions?

Jennifer,
PayPal standard looks perfect to get me started. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Shopping cart recommendations
Mark, I use a piece of software called Linklok that's simple to use once you get you've create a download page and a download email that the software points to. Whenever I add a product to my site, I list it in Linklok, giving it a product code, a product name, a price, and the spot on the server to go fetch the zip file. It takes around 30 seconds to code a product. I upload the revised Linklok file and I'm good to go. Ken (Bighousedaddy) clued me into the software, I happily went with it, and then I passed on the suggestion to Dale Fenimore who I assume still uses it. The guy who wrote the software is highly responsive and incredibly helpful, a rarity these days.
