Debbie's Accordion Template

Postby trulytango » Sun Jun 29, 2008 1:24 am

Hi there

Many thanks to Debbie for posting the accordion effect as a template - see Member Created Files. I thought the effect looked brilliant in her recent Family show, and I was determined to give it a go - now she has saved me some precious time in the learning curve!

It is much appreciated and provides a neat way to introduce a little WOW factor into a show... I know I will find this very useful indeed.

Thanks again
Iris :D

Hello Iris,

As a heads up, the vignette setting is applied on the top most layer with a small border. The user can make changes to that setting or turn it completely off if desired.

You could also colorize the layers below for a slightly different effect. I would use the eye dropper tool and pick up colors in the top image to match.

Debbie, this is a wonderful effect, and I have to admit that I already have made use of it in one of my shows, immediately after I first saw it in your Demo.
So, this is a belated thank you.

You're welcome Mona.

I'm probablya not the first person to have thought of it. I would like to see others experiment with the display and try more off center spreads or even with some rotation for a different look. It's fun to see how the image looks enlarged over so many additional layers.

Debbie,
Thanks for the accordian template. I will be using it as well. Loved how the kids looked and loved how Iris used it with her cat.

Chrissy,

I know you are frustrated. But it really does take time to learn this stuff. There is a learning curve and you can't get away from that. Don't feel bad. You are in a better position than most of us were that first started using 3.0 a year and a half ago and trying to learn key framing with little to no documentation to really help us much. Now you have a lot of information to dig through on this site that will be of tremendous help.

It isn't easy no matter how you look at it. It's easier for the seasoned user to grasp new things perhaps, yes, but for newbies, that's a different story. That is totally normal.

If you try to bite off more than you can chew, you will only frustrate yourself more.

Take one thing at a time and master it. Then add something else.

I wouldn't necessarily jump right into using templates if you don't know how to adjust them. That is just further frustration IMO. I didn't touch templates for probably 6 months or more until I was more familiar with key framing and other features in Producer. But that's just how I approached it. There is plenty to learn before getting into using templates.

You can still make a nice show without them by keeping some show composition basics in mind when you build your show.

Pick music that fits the images.
Use purposeful movement - not too much, not too little.
Select a complementary color scheme
Tell a story - have a strong beginning and end at least.

Some of the early, simple shows I did in Gold I still enjoy watching even without layering capabilities or key framing.

Debbie, I have come to the same conclusion, go slowly, it's not how fast you arrive it's the journey getting there. Good advice. I will be taking it :D
I'm slowing down to a nice little jog instead of a full on sprint.
Thanks for the reminder
