Using Actual Templates vs Full Shows

Postby nannybear » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:18 pm

Check out this thread.....
http://www.proshowenthusiasts.com/viewt ... ates#29394

One thing to remember is that people will tend to send two types of files. One really is a template with the empty grey boxes and it has an extension of .pst. Others will actually zip up the whole shebang for you pics and all and the extension will be .psh with folders for image/audio etc.... Only pst stored in the right place will show up as an actual template in the program. Have I made this as clear as mud under a mask now...lol? Hugs Jan

I'll jump in & see if I can give a quick & simple answer. First of all, the file extensions:
.psh - the ProShow files -- the real "show"
.pxc - kind of a 'cache' that allows the show to load faster (i.e., 'remembers' what & where things are) - can be deleted - it will recreate itself
.pst - an actual template file -- normally the pictures & audio aren't included -- there are placeholders where you insert your photos
.bak or .b01, .b02... (b & 2 numbers) - backup up files ProShow makes on it's own at certain intervals - can be deleted - you tend to get a lot of these

Now - how to use that template assuming it IS an actual template with the .pst extension -- There are all kinds of 'copy it here, turn on hidden, paste it there...' instructions on this forum. ACTUALLY, the easiest way w/Producer is: unzip the file (you've already done that). Now open Producer & go up to "Show", down to "Show Templates" and over to "Import Template." In the window that opens, navigate to where the unzipped file is. Double click the .pst file -- if all works well, you'll get a message that it was successfully imported. Now to use it, go again up to "Show" / "Show Templates" but this time, go over to "Open Template" and open that new template you just imported. You might get a prompt that files are missing & do you want to search. Normally files are not included, so click No. Double click the first slide you want to edit. Look in Layers & start substituting your own photos, music, etc., to create your own show.

Hope this helped & not too confusing - Diana

Thank you nannybear,

I had never quite worked out the bit about Importing Templates from within Producer.
I do find most things are easy when kind people like you go to all the trouble to dot all the hard work

Templates - how to plugging in photos and make 'em dance???

Postby Truelight » Fri Oct 12, 2007 2:50 pm

I've figured out how to get a template to load into PSP and have the template loaded so that the gray boxes appear with all of the "moves" pre-loaded. My problem is knowing how/where to drag and drop photos into the template. More complex templates (i.e. Keeli template ) have --dozens-- of gray boxes and many seem to want to use the same images choreographed in an elaborate "dance." Very cool, but how do I know where I should put my images?

The most elaborate I've encountered here is the "Eagle Rays" template with 245 slides and a whole slug of fancy moves. It's easier than some, with instructions included that say "Drag and drop photos to this screen. They will be duplicated to the next 8 slides." Carefully dragging slides into what on the timeline can be very tiny (and overlapped) gray boxes is kinda hard... isn't there a better way to do this?

Using templates is a nice way to let the skill of an experienced user with keyframing (too scary for a rookie like me to approach just yet!!) make my show look spiffy, but I'm still puzzling over how to get my pictures into a template so they "dance" doing all the right steps.

Any tips?? - Thanks...

Any help for me?

Can anyone help me with my prior post about how to best get photos into a template?

I prefer to go into the "layers" tab on the individual slide and load individually. It makes me see where they are going. Just click on the layer you want and on the right hand side I think it says select file? Hope that helps. Others say you can use the select all button and just drop the pics in and they will fill the presentation but I haven't played with that too much. Cheers Jan

ps I couldn't get the Eagle Ray one to fill all 8 slides, still puzzling on that one.....

Templates - populating the boxes

Postby Truelight » Mon Oct 15, 2007 2:38 pm

The only problem I see in using the Layers method of populating templates with images is that you are essentially "flying blind," you can't see the images only the filenames. The drag and drop method lets you see the image you're dragging in - but getting stuff into the very tiny boxes, many which are layered under others, is a real trick.

Now if you could only drag an image from the Slide List onto the Layers Listing...!! That's how it -should- work!!

Hi Jan, I have just been reading the postings and was wondering if some of them refer to the "Album" by Dave Fitzpatrick. I have been trying to find out how to get in touch with him in regards to this. Noticed that Jim had a query about it.

My problem is - How can I get this album which is designed as a 4:3 to go in a show that I want to be 16:9.
When I put these photos in my show they are all haywire. When I go into Show Options and change to 4:3 it looks fine but I do not want this to govern the output of my show which has to be 16:9.

Would appreciate if you could let me know if it can be done or not and then I can get on with the Show.
Cheers Pauline

If you go to the member's list you can find Dave and PM him. That would be best as he built it! Good luck, Jan
