What OS are you running on ?? I thought XP could open .zip files (but
I have winzip installed so I'm not sure). What happens if you right click
it and select "explore" ??

Hi Mikey
I have Windows XP. Family Portraits.zip sits on my desktop. When I right click it and select Explore it opens the"C" Documents and settings/Monica/Desktop/Family_Portraits folder and in it the zipped file sits there. I tried to right click that again but there are no options to unzip. Cant find any anywhere.

Strange -- what you should see when your right click -> explore is
the Family Portraits.pst file which you can then drag to your desktop
or where ever you want. I just tried it and had no problem (well, I
did, somehow Sony DVD Architect Studio was blocking the download
and I had to exit that). Maybe someone else without winzip installed
can verify it works as expected, but you should be able to open the
folder in explorer then drag/drop the pst file inside it to where ever.

Hi Mikey,
On the Desktop i located the Family Portraits zip file where it is sitting. I right clicked it. Opened Properties. Under the General Tab I unchecked - Read only and unchecked Hidden. Apply - OK.
I then opened Proshow Producer. File menu - Open - File name - Family Portraits on desktop path File types - all files - located the family protraits.pst file. Looks in Family Portraits found something and dialog box said files missing. Could not find them. But when to Show - Show Templates and it was sitting there. So Im not sure what did it but i have the template show working and instead of images I have templates saying Files missing. But all the motions and text all work.
So thanks lots for your help. But I still cant understand why I cant just simply unzip them. Perhaps I should purchase Winzip.
Thanks
Monica

You either need WinRAR or WinZip, I believe, to unzip and 'archive' (or one of many other variants out there)
What icon does your .zip file have? If it is like a filing cabinet held in a vice, then you already have WinZip somewhere, if it's like a Windows window with three little dots in it you do not yet have a program to 'unzip' it. WinZip is a very useful program to have.
If you want to try it, just download a version and it will work as a trial without buying.

Yes, you should have been able to "Right click" --> "Explore"
to view what is in the folder. The properties should have been
fine as they were. As near as I can tell, XP includes built
in file compression so it should handle the compressed files
This is taken directly from the XP built in help system on my
machine (so winzip didn't install this information)
(use Start --> Help and Support center then search for "zip" ):
To extract files from a zipped compressed folder
Open My Computer, and then locate the compressed folder.
Do one of the following:
To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder
to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder
to a new location.
To extract all files or folders, right-click the compressed folder, and
then click Extract All. In the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction
Wizard, specify where you want to store the extracted files.
Notes
To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
You can identify compressed folders by the zipper on the folder icon.
If the file is protected with a password, you must provide the
password before the file can be extracted to the folder you specify.
When you extract a file, a compressed version remains in the
compressed folder. To delete the compressed version, right-click
the file, and then click Delete.
When you extract a file from a compressed folder that is password
protected, the extracted file is no longer protected.
which indicates to me that XP has the ability built in.

The file has a Yellow Folder with a zip on it. I might try downloading Winzip for the future though. And thank you very much for your help too.

Don't you learn something new all the time, like why have I got WinZip installed
Brian
winzip has a bunch more features than the basic "zip" functionality, but
for the basics, XP will do it for you. You probably have winzip because
you purchased it in a previous version of windows that did NOT support
zipped files (I think it was added in XP). Of course, since I bought it
they have significantly changed their pricing policy (I think they have
been talking to the Photodex folks). As soon as you buy an "upgrade"
they change the rules and version and want you to buy the new one.

Yep, I've had WinZip since goodness knows when.
I very seldom zip a file, but I have always used it to unzip, I'm a throw-back to the past with which I'm familiar . I guess I've had a copy of WinZip since the distance past also, at least I can never remember having paid anything for it .
I'll now be able to go and educate my other 'throw-back from the past' buddies and brag what a clever fellow I am , I'm sure they don't know this one, they are more familiar, like me, with DOS.

Well, I look at my original registration info and it was back in
2000 for version 8 (and all new versions would be free ... until
they changed the rules of course).
