2 Wave Transitions

Postby BarbaraC » Thu Apr 18, 2013 4:00 am

Even though this section is for styles and templates, it's the closest I could find for transitions...

I've always liked the idea of ProShow's wave transitions but never quite liked their implementation, and so I created Wave Down and Wave Up, both of which are actually a cross between wave and smoke. Best at 4 seconds or more. They're free: Wave Transitions

Thanks Barbara,
I like these and think these may help with a transition I've been trying to make.
It often happens that I want to show the time change from one night to the next morning - or day to night.
I'd like a sunrise or sunset transition.

Hmm... It might be a matter of deconstructing the wave transitions and then editing the mask so there's a russet color solid beneath it. However, I'm sitting here without Producer up and running and without testing the idea, so I suppose I ought to take a look before stating random thoughts, which will confuse both of us. :D

I tested my idea, and it looked downright awful no matter how I manipulated things. The problem is that the color is necessarily covering the entire slide from left to right, which means that if, for instance, you're using the default black background, the black is muddied up with orange. Ugly.

You could, however, use the method in a slide style, masking the effect with a copy of the photo so the effect shows only on the photo:

photo #1 set as alpha mask
--->semi-transparent deep orange gradient using plasma & with opacity reduced
photo #1
photo #2

You could then start the gradient panning from top to bottom, fading it out as the first photo fades out and the next photo fades in...

...I think. I bet there's a much easier way that's simply not occurring to me. Maybe it'll occur to someone else.

I did try a very quick blank yellow/orange slide in between and was encouraged, but need more time to work on this...

Hi
Modifier at the initial value 100% of Opacity will not work. It is useless.

What result are you looking for?

What you're looking at is a byproduct of something else I was working on, so I'm not surprised a remnant got left in there. If it works better without the modifier, remove it and resave.

Change the opacity from 100 to 0 on all keyframes on that layer. Next, select the "Timing" checkbox (so that it will always scale). Set the slide time to 10. Change the Quadratic value to 1. The total modifier (green line) will now vary non-linearly from 0 to 100.

Note the scale to the left in the Modifier edit box. It should vary between -100 to 100. The total modifier (green line) will vary from 0 to 100, representing, in this case the opacity value.

Dale

Note: you cannot change opacity to a value above 100 . . . that's what the current setting is trying to do. The fix above should correct that. The Timing lock is there to avoid vastly different activities when the transition length is changed. The quadratic function can provide some really wide ranging effects with the same settings depending on the time over which it can operate.

Thank you, Dale, for explaining how to vary opacity using the modifier. I played with it briefly, simply changing the values to 0, and it worked just fine.

Anyone downloading these transitions can easily bring them in as slides. After that, follow Dale's instructions. If you've never before played with modifiers, it'll be a fine introduction.

As for having a non-working modifier sitting inside the transitions, my only excuse is that I'd been working on something, fooling around with various things, obviously things that included modifiers, and then I flitted away to do something else. I looked back on the slides a bit later, didn't remember the modifiers, saved the two slides as transitions, and said, "Ta-dah!" :D
