50th Wedding Anniversary song suggestion ???

Postby L.B. » Sun Feb 03, 2008 7:41 pm

Everyone here always seem to come up with suggestions that I haven't thought of. Does anyone have any favorites that would be appropriate for a 50th anniversary slideshow? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Here are two good ones with the lyrics.

Celine Dion-Another Year Has Gone By

So many 25th's of december
Just as many 4th of july's
And we're still holding it together
It only comes down to you and i

I know you can still remember
Things we said right from the start
When we said that this could be special
I'm keeping those words deep down in my heart

Another year has gone by
And I'm still the one by your side
After everything that's gone by
There's still no one saying goodbye
Though another year has gone by

I never been much for occasions
You never let another birthday go by
Without announcing how much you love me
But the truth was always there
Right there in your eyes

And we're still holding hands when we're walking
Acting like we've only just met
But how can that be - when there's so much history
I guess that's how true lovers can get

Another year has gone by
And I'm still the one by your side
After everything that's gone by
There's still no one saying goodbye
Though another year has gone by

Another year has gone by
And I'm still the one by your side
After everything that's gone by
There's still no one saying goodbye
Though another year has gone by

The Voyage-Christy Moore

I am a sailor, you're my first mate
We signed on together, we coupled our fate
Hauled up our anchor, determined not to fail
For the hearts treasure together we set sail.

With no maps to guide us we steered our own course
Rode out the storms when the winds were gale force
Sat out the doldrums in patience and hope
Working together we learned how to cope.

CHORUS

Life is an ocean and love is a boat
In troubled water that keeps us afloat
When we started the voyage, there was just me and you
Now gathered round us we have our own crew.

Together we're in this relationship
We built it with care to last the whole trip
Our true destination's not marked on any chart
We're navigating to the shores of the heart.

CHORUS

Life is an ocean and love is a boat
In troubled water that keeps us afloat
When we started the voyage, there was just me and you
Now gathered round us we have our own crew.

This is a pretty good song. I've used it for anniversary videos before. It's got a great verse in it about a liftime of smiles.... I'll highlight it below. The song is a bit of a tear jerker though...

Ivan

Beautiful in my Eyes - Joshua Kadison

You're my peace of mind
In this crazy world
You're everything I've tried to find
Your love is a pearl
You're my Mona Lisa, you're my rainbow skies
And my only prayer is that you realize
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes

The world will turn
And the seasons will change
And all the lessons we will learn
Will be beautiful and strange
We'll have our fill of tears, our share of sighs
My only prayer is that you realize
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes

You will always be... beautiful in my eyes
And the passing years will show
That you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.

There are lines upon my face
From a lifetime of smiles
When the time comes to embrace
For one long last while
We can laugh about, how time really flies
We won't say goodbye 'cause true love never dies
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes

You will always be... beautiful in my eyes
And the passing years will show
That you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes
The passing years will show
That you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.

Thought of another one- Look At Us by Vince Gill.

Look at us
After all these years together
Look at us
After all that we've been through
Look at us
Still leaning on each other

Chorus:

If you want to see
How true love should be
Then just look at us

Look at you
Still pretty as a picture
Look at me
Still crazy over you
Look at us
Still believin' in forever

Chorus

In a hundred years from now
I know without a doubt
They'll all look back and wonder how
We made it all work out

Chances are
We'll go down in history
When they want to see
How true love should be
They'll just look at us

I always liked this one:

ALAN JACKSON LYRICS

"Remember When"

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

What we did for my parents 50th anniversay party is my brother went out and found my Dad's favorite song and my Mom's favorite song from that period plus some other "hits" of that era. We had the DJ play them during the party. That put smiles on their faces and brought back so many memories for them.

I am in the middle of doing a 50th show for people I do not really know. They gave me their favorite music, which is music of their era. I wonder if it would mean more to them if it was music that brought back many warm memories.

Just another thought.

Mary - Of course it would. Haven't you ever heard a song being played and thought, "I remember that song...it came out during
my summer at the beach with the girls."

Songs that a person can relate to will bring back wonderful memories. If you are doing a show for a 50th, I would definately use
music from that era. I think that people who are in their seventies, are not going to relate to any music of recent times
because they generally don't sit around and listen to music. Just my opinion of course and there are exceptions to everything.

I recently did a show that was given as a gift to someone. The show was about a car this man had in the 1950's and I (after much
listening, asking and searching) choose a popular tune from that time. When he watched his show, he said, "I remember this song...
my wife and I use to make out to this" and with that, I knew I had choosen the perfect song.

My Treasure

Postby dlvery » Fri Feb 08, 2008 7:23 pm

I did a 50th anniversary show for my in laws last year and used a song called My Treasure by Scott Wesley Brown. You can hear it on youtube.com Make sure its the scott wesley brown version because John Denver and Placido Domingo did one and its not nearly as nice. I also used 'Remember When', and What a Wonderful World. Remember When made ME cry when I watched it and My Treasure was priceless. I also used a song from Cinderella since my in laws started their courtship while having the leads in their Cinderella high school play. She was Cinderella and he was Prince Charming! Cool, eh?

You can take a look at the show if you like at:

Good Luck on your show. It really made me appreciate my own life after viewing all that a marriage goes through over 50 years. Those kinds of folks are MY HEROES!

Of course, that makes perfect sense. I made a 35th anniversary show for my husband and I started it with our "wedding song" and used songs that had special meaning to us for the rest of the show. Our favorite songs are really the soundtrack of our lives and we identify with them and can relive the special moments when we hear them.

I have used "Remember When" for several shows.
I also like piano music by Jim Brickman.
Another idea would be to ask the couple what "their song is."
