DMR Protected Files

How can I use DMR Protected music downloaded from the net in my slideshows, is there a legal way of converting the files for private use to MP3?

If you stick to the "legal way" then probably not. Leave that out and yes, there are utilities out there which may or may not be legal to use in the UK for that purpose. What kind of files are you looking to convert -- iTunes?

HI Dick
I am have downloaded music files with a .wma extension. I have tried to import into ProShow Producer and PTE but neither will accept the file.

If you search the forum on ".wma" you'll find you're not alone. There are utilities to convert it but the simplest solution that's worked for others is simply to create an audio CD with the file(s) and then use something to "rip" the CD track as an MP3 which ProShow does support. Media player and lots of other applications can do both operations.

You can also purchase software such as http://www.wma-convert.com/. WMAConvert easily converts DRM protected music files and various audio files to unprotected MP3, CD, iPod and other MP3 player file formats at high speed and CD quality. That will save you a lot of time.

Thank you very much for your responses, I had tried Tunebite and wma-convert software programmes and also tried to create an audio CD but all was prevented by a failure in the Codex on my computer. In the end I had to remove Windows Media Player 11 and re-install which seems to have overcome the problem with the Codex. I have now successfully been able to create an audio CD then rip this and create an mp3 file.

Once you have the Audio CD you should be able to grab right in PSP right off the CD. Just can't remember where on the toolbar, but it's there. Cheers Jan
