Need reccomendations for Music for Memorial show

Postby Oldguy » Thu Jan 19, 2012 11:34 am

I am making a memorial show for a friend, whose
husband was a retired Minister. I don't want the show
to be real sad, but honoring and reflecting. Nor
do I want to use all church music. And, I would like for
the show to have broad age appeal. The music I like for
the most part would have a definite country sound. But,
probably not for the folks who I will give it to.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Forrest

Not too long ago, Digital Juice had a special on their Stack Traxx religious stuff, but I don't see it on their page right now. You might want to check out the specials on Production Music from Footage Firm that they have right now and see if any of that would work for you (good prices on the stuff).

Hi Forrest -

If your friends husband was a Christian minister, using religious music should not be a problem. There are so many lovely contemporary Christian pieces that have good music, but wonderful, hopeful words.

One of my favorites is Chris Tomlin's, I Will Rise. The words go something like
"There's a peace I've come to know, though my heart and flesh may fail.
There's an anchor for my soul, and I can say "it is well."
The chorus goes:
I will rise when He call my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise, on eagle wings
before my God, fall on my knees
and I will rise.

I used I Will Rise for a family member. It brings tears, but also smiles and hope.

A couple of other songs in that genre are by Mercy Me I Can Only Imagine and Homesick

I also like Josh Grobin's, On Eagle Wings

or, remember The Lettermen, Softly, I Will Leave You Softly

I'm sorry for your loss, and that of your friend.

Just talking to my sister about that Chris Tomlin song. And, she reminded me of a song we had used for an anniversary.

Its country - Alan Jackson's Remember When

or Faith Hill's There You'll Be

OK, I will stop now... :)

I just noticed that Digital Juice has their Worship Stack Traxx back in stock for this weekend only (I happened to be snooping around on their specials page). See if this is of interest to you - down near the bottom of the page:

My favorite is "To where You Are" by Josh Groban. If you want to keep it country-ish, check out Collin Raye's music. He has several songs that are appropriate.

Forgot about a good one. John Michael Montgomery has a song entitled I Miss you a Little. Very touching.

I always like to ask family members what was the person's "favorite" songs.....makes it personal.
Sometime I even use the instermental version of a certain song --- if the words are not appropriate

I agree, and will do that.
