Royalty free music - where to get it?

Postby susanjune » Thu Apr 08, 2010 6:04 am

Can anyone recommend the best place and lowest price for purchasing music to legally use for our psp productions?
I know Ditial Juice seems to be a good site....but which tracks are best to order?
Thanks.

Hi Susan,

A number of threads that discuss this are located in the Music Section below the Producer section area.

viewforum.php?f=14

Scan the thread titles and you should be able to find some that list a number of companies people use for music.

Which are best? Since music is a matter of taste and preference, this is hard to say. What floats one person's boat can easily sink another. :D

The DJ site lets you listen to almost every song available in their Stack Trax volumes so just go there and see what you prefer. While I have a bunch of DJ stuff, I've only used some of it. If you get on their mailing list, you'll periodically receive notices of sales/deals. They recently had a deal on BackTrax Volumes of which I've owned for a while. They've come in handy but not all the music I have appeals to me. I also have some Stack Trax too.

shockwave-sound.com ( http://www.shockwave-sound.com/index.html ) has some very nice stuff, but they are not cheap (and seldom have sales that I have seen). Smart Sound ( http://www.smartsound.com/ ) often seems to have some good sales and has some decent stuff that is easy to adjust the length of for your shows. Check out the treads Debbie listed. As she indicated - many options and no simple answers - you need to pick what works for you.

You may also want to check out Stock20.com -- they have a 48hour sale on right now that looks pretty good.

Despite the fact that they support PicturestoExe, they have some pleasing music which you can download as individual tracks or full CDs or purchase CDs. You can also download samples from most of their tracks. Individual tracks cost $5, CDs $22 but if you "bulk buy" you can get up to 50% discount - don't know how these prices compare with others.

I really like Dawn Music. You can review any selection and
get different lengths of the same music.
