"youlicense.com" music site

Postby debngar » Sun Feb 21, 2010 2:42 pm

Check this out. There's a huge variety of styles of GREAT music available on this site from soup to nuts, including vocals! WOW! :D

http://www.youlicense.com

Licenses are available for various uses and seem to be reasonable for users like us.

The last item on the list of license prices says for use on "web" and slide shows is only $10. I'm not sure if that covers using it on a DVD and giving/selling it to someone but still this is a pretty good price. In addition, it offers opportunity to "name your own price". How neat is that!

My guess is it's per project though and not royalty free pay once and use it forever, etc. It just is not that clear and it may be you have to register to find out the exact details.

I'm not in the market for any new music right now but if anyone happens to try this, please let us know what you find out, the exact terms of use.

Sample artists

"Immediate" - grand orchestral/cinematic/movie style theme

"Todd Schroeder" - nice piano music

"Angela Predhomme" - Click on "This Might Be Good" for an Engagement Session slide show.

Nice find Debbie.

I registered an account just to see some more of the options and pricing.

Here's some of my discoveries...
I clicked on a random song, and choose a license for website usage.

Here's the options for the website/slideshow license:
Entire song (not just 45 secs)
Type of site: personal
Duration (of license): unlimited
Page views per month: less than 10K
Cost: $112.50

For those options and 1 year license it costs $37.50.
$10 if you want up to 45 secs of the song, for a personal website, and a license for 1 week.

I wonder where the "make offer" that is shown under the prices comes in to play.

I figured the $10 was too good to be true for website use. :(

I also wonder what the price and terms of use is for an entire song NOT shown on a website but used on a DVD and sold to a customer (hence it's for commercial use when we use it to synch to photos in a slideshow but it sort of ends up as for personal use by the client ultimately).

Hi there Debbie and Enthusiasts family,
I recently contacted YouLicense.com regarding non-commercial usage of their listed songs and thought I'd pass along their response. My Digital Juice StackTraxx library is great but for personal shows needing that personal touch that vocals bring, I think youlicense.com fits the bill and my budget. I really like their selection of vocal songs! :)

Hugs, Stephanie

Feedback: I would like to create a family slideshow using one of your
listed songs. I would be creating one DVD for personal viewing/archiving but
would like to post show to my Facebook or Vimeo account for other family
members to view. What category does this fall so I can determine to correct
license needed and cost?

Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for contacting us.
Please choose the 'video clip/webisode' and then choose 'web clip' - it
shouldn't cost more than $8.
And you're all set. The dvd is more for personal use so you'll be covered.

Thank you,

I have found some terrific "creative commons" music on Jamendo. I have used at least 6-7 selections - even some excellent classical and instrumental tunes - for my shows.

I know that Jamendo has been suggested before, but i thought it wouldn't hurt to mention it again. :D
