Special Assignment: Commercial

Postby alcain » Sat Oct 13, 2007 3:20 pm

Special Assignment: Commercial.

Hi folks, we have a new user aboard who is working on a 'commercial' for a local Hobby Shop. Believe me, it isn't as easy as it may seem to make a 30 second meaningful show (commercial). There are so many things to include, but you don't want it to seem overwhelming or busy.

Her name is Wendy (wennix) and the link to her show is: http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewsho ... 6292&alb=0

Her original post is: http://www.proshowenthusiasts.com/viewtopic.php?t=5099

Since we are a big happy family and all team players here, I thought it might be a cool idea if we (all) attempt to make our own commercial to...
1. Put ourselves in her shoes
2. Hopefully give her some good ideas
3. Come up with some zany or insightful commercial ideas.

I suggest that you make a commercial for any product or place you desire to promote.
The product or place can be real or imaginary.
The commercial must not exceed 30 seconds in length (Not including an intro (for those who like intros into thier shows).

This should be a "blast" and I think there will be some fantastic entries. So get your thinking caps on and start figuring out what you will promote!

This is not a contest, but a fun "project".

Blessings, ~al

A GREAT Tip From BarbaraC

Wendy, I worked in a few different areas having to do with commercials, and the one thing of greatest value I learned was that, almost 100% of the time, it's all about the customer and how the product or service will make his or her life better. No matter how sweet the business owner, no matter how philanthropic the corporation, the customer ultimately cares only about himself, which makes sense. So, the business doesn't say, "I can make you happy with my product." Instead, it says, "You will be happy when you own this product." Notice that there's no "I" in the second statement.
I figured that if you're going to do commercials, this might be a handy thing to know. Knowledge and good luck are a lovely combo, and I wish you both.

Think I could make a good enough pitch that someone would buy my husband who's currently watching car racing on television?

But that's not all! For just $19.95, you also get all the cracker crumbs around him, cheese bits included at no extra charge!

Al, Wow!!!! What a cool idea........thanks so much for thinking of it!!!! I can't wait to see what everyone can come up with. I have watched shows from lots of people here so I know the talent pool is deep.

I have gotten lots of ideas for other shows from here so this should be a really great learning experience!!

Can't wait!!!!

No laughter at all, Jan. Maybe a big grin at the theatrically done vocals, but it's a grin of enjoyment. You said it, you showed it, and it had eye candy. I liked it.

Thanks, I tweaked it a little and posted in the Sample Show area. I got my audio gear working so the vocals aren't quite as theatrical.....lol...cheers Jan
