Congratulations on the new toy -- a man after my own heart !!

One thing you might want to consider is the expanded ebook on
the D40 by Thom Hogan -- I have the one for my D70s and there is
LOTS of stuff in there not in the regular Nikon users guide and it
is much better written. Very reasonable price.

I think I may have to put one on my Christmas wish list for Santa.

I love my little Canon Powershot, but last week Mikey commented
that one of the reasons he got his Nikon was to get away from the
delay in shutter release on the point-and-shoots. I totally
agree.

Well, the newer P/S cameras are getting better than the old
3 seconds to power up and 1 second after the shutter release
is pressed, it takes the picture :D (but I really do love my
D70s -- got it about this time last year - just looking at the
images, and I noticed I have shot 6693 pictures with it in that
time (I discovered a while back that that number is embedded
in the EXIF info in the picture). That said, I'm not about to
trade my D70 for a P/S :D

Good Luck with your new camera - will look forward to seeing your results once you get a show put together. Enjoy your trip over 'that wide expanse of water'! come October.

Talk of a new camera has me thinking 'will I or won't I?'. No way can I complain about results from my main digi - a now ancient Minolta, but it is SO slow compared to modern digis - many a time it has me pulling my hair out!
