PRICING.... and just a curious question

Postby HunnyB » Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:43 am

How many of you create slide shows, I like to call them "movie presentations",
professionally, and how many of you are just great producers and it's a hobby?
You may be like me --- a "semi-pro" leaning more toward the latter.

Is there somewhere I can check for pricing guidelines????????
Would like to compare with what I have been charging.

Thanks guys,
HunnyB

Take a look through the "Business Applications" section -- there
are a number of different threads there covering a whole bunch
of issues related to pricing, how to get the business (without
getting the business ... ), giving out samples and advertising
etc. Lots of good discussions there.

Well, for me, it is just a hobby - I really enjoy being able to
put things together like this (and it allows me to justify some
of my toys to my wife !!). I think many of the others also
use Producer just for a hobby (mostly) - especially if you had
Gold for a while and didn't get sucked in on Photodex's pricing
scam back in December/January. If you had gold for 2 years,
with their current "customer loyalty" routine, you can get
Producer for $99 so it is not a bad deal. Would be nice if they

1) fixed the bugs (without adding a new bunch) so it works as
advertised (I have been hearing comments already about bugs
in the new build 1966 released yesterday) and

2) added "alpha channel" support like most "pro products" have
(and they are promoting Producer as a "Pro" product).

One comment on the commercial side of it (and why I am just
a hobby). Engineers typically don't like to get out there and
sell themselves -- we prefer to take things apart, fiddle with the
innards and in general build cool geeky things. That sort of
sums me up here :D I do make DVD's each year for both
kids soccer teams with the best of the pictures I got but I just
give them to the parents for no cost as a fun project (and justification
for that new camera/lens whatever :D )
