Using transitions and what they mean ...

Postby gpsmikey » Thu Jul 19, 2007 4:22 pm

For what it's worth, here is a quicktime clip (just under 7 minutes) called
"Field of View: Punctuation" that, as they say in the summary for it
"Transitions are the punctuation of your productions.
They assist your viewers in interpreting your edit."

They do a very nice job of explaining different basic transitions, how
people react to them and how to use them best. Since transitions
(often too many) comes up on a regular basis here, I thought people
might find this helpful. Sure made sense for me. :)

Take some time to snoop through some of their other things under
the DigitalJuice TV section - lots of good info there that while mostly
targeted for the pure video crowd, very much applies to what we
are doing here with our shows.

I agree Mikey. I have started to watch some of their videos and there is some good general info on how to make a better show that applies to photos too.

Making a shot list and shooting to edit was a good tip. Shots of details at an event, in addition to ones of the main subject (say for instance people at a wedding) helps develop the whole story, makes it more interesting for the viewer and those shots make great transitions from one group of photos, the pre-wedding images, to the ceremony, to the reception, etc. to the guests, etc.
