Which is the best format- 4:3 (TV) or 16:9 (widescreen)

So far, I've only formatted and burned shows in 4:3. But we recently purchased a widescreen (finally) to replace one of the older TVs we had and was thinking perhaps it would be good to start using this format or make 2 shows which some people do but could really be a pain if one is talking hundreds of photos for someone else's wedding or something....
