PSP8 AVCHD into Movie Studio 12 Platnum

In the past I have worked in PSP6 and made an AVI that I took into Movie Studio to combine with the video part. And give me a menu to go on DVD's. In PSP8 they talk about a new output, AVCHD. So which would give me the best final result on a dvd, stick with an AVI bringing it into Movie Studio, upgrading to PRP8 (I'm on PSP6) and using the AVCHD output into Movie Studio or doing my video editing in Movie Studio and bringing the clips into PSP?
