Has anyone created a style that shows a change of day?

Postby tdew » Thu Jan 08, 2015 4:53 am

I had tried this a while ago, but never came up with anything that was satisfactory. Often when I'm working on a slideshow about a trip, I would like to clearly show that it's now a new day in the adventure by having the sun go down, darkness and then a new sunrise. Has anyone done this? If not, maybe one of our people who create transitions for sale could consider it.

Just noticed that I said "style" in the heading - of course I'm talking about a transition...

At the last pic of each day I fade to a suitable caption, e.g., "And so to bed. It had been an exciting day. What new sights awaited us tomorrow." Fade that and the music out. Fade in to a caption of the day/date/place with appropriate music. Then onto the first pic of the day.

Hi Tony, Yes, that's along the lines of what I do too, but it gets tiresome. I like to record some of our trips in order, so we'll have them to look back on and stir up the memories. I think a New day sunrise transition would be very useful in some situations. I'll keep trying to get it right.

Thanks John, That does look promising. Now all I need is the time to play!

I used to have a large set of styles that included both a sunrise and a sunset. As I remember it, they were pretty basic. Here's an outline of the process: Create a circle in bright yellow with "rays" or a blur behind it. For sunset, the circle descends at a very slight diagonal from top of screen down and off the screen, using Adjustments to slowly deepen the yellow into orange. To have the sun rise, the effect is done in reverse. You don't necessarily need a transition to do this. All you need is to have the first and second photos in the same slide with the sun as a top layer. As the sun "sets," slowly darken and fade the first photo, and then as the sun rises, have the second photo go from dark to light while fading in.

So I guess the question for your transition is do you just want the sky with the sun going down and then coming up.. You want mountains, city woods or just the sky? and how long of a transition do you want?

Barbara and Deadman
Sorry, I didn't see these responses until just now! Things have been a bit hectic around here lately. Thank you for taking the time to think about it.

I suppose what would work would be a layer that I could put over whatever the last slide of a day had been. I like Barbara's idea. It's not too complex but should make the change of day less jarring in a show about a journey.

Thanks.
