Playing video in a mirror shaped object

Postby pacino8591 » Mon Dec 15, 2014 8:39 am

Since I couldn't find the answer in previous postings, I decided to share my question with some of you (very) experienced users. I haven't got a clue if it's even technically possible, but if I don't ask I'll will never know. When I play a video file, it's aspect ratio dimensions, even in custom setting, are always respected. Meaning that I cannot obviously play a video in a disproportionate way, even if I wanted. Is there a way to do so?

I use both Gold and Producer. Please picture this. My main layer is a still photo of an oval shaped mirror. I tried it both as a transparent pnd file as well as jpeg. Now I want to play a video ONLY in the mirror, meaning my video has to be shaped oval (which looks impossible to me). Even as a masking layer, the moment I add my video file it sticks to it's ratio dimensions, making it impossible just to see only that part which shows in the mirror.

What's good enough for Steven Spielberg, should be good enough for me

If even possible, how do I go from here?

Thanks in advance!

Masks can be any shape. Some of these links "might" help.

GOLD does NOT support masks.

In Producer, go to tools and click on DOWNLOAD extras. One of the options to for masks. Maybe you can use one of those. Or, add a WHITE LAYER (Gradient or Solid) ... Make it 720x720. This gives you a square. Next, go to the Slide Options | Adjustments tab. Click on the VIGNETTE button. For Vignette type, set it to Ellipse of type=Transparent. The Default vignette size is 10 .. which is fine for now ... all it does is to feather the hard edge. You're done... click on OK. Place this layer above the video layer. Right click over the layer you just created and select USE AS MASKING LAYER. The mask layer should be physically over the video layer as well ... anything below this mask layer will show through the layer. Anything outside the confines/dimensions of the layer will be cut off. Now, Resize the Mask and/or video layer to be at the size you want (use the zoom settings).

That's it in a nutshell.

Good luck!!
