Caption Macros
Is is possible to attached one of the Predefined Caption Macros (i.e. \f to insert the file name) to all of the slides in the show all at once or do I need to set the macros for each slide one at a time?
Re: Caption Macros
The easiest way:
After creating the macro on your slide, highlight all the slides you want to have that caption. Right click on the caption and copy to selected slides. Or copy to all slides. Or copy to other slides.

Easiest way is to tick the box in CAPTION SETTINGS tab to make the caption global, (affect all slides). It's one step. But if there are slides that you wish to not have that caption, then the copy method is your other choice.
Caption Settings>Caption Setup >Show caption [X] Appears on every slide.
Re: Caption Macros
Debbie is right, the "GLOBAL" IS the easiest ... and is fairly flexible for settings and the like. You can edit (change) the text ON any slide and it changes on every slide. Further, you can turn it off for any slide you don't want it on.
To change the position globally, use the Caption Settings on any slide. This gives you access to all the caption settings. Make the desired changes and the caption is changed on all slides.
The only real downside is that if you need to reposition it slightly on one or more slides, you can't ... you have to copy it to that slide and edit it.

Where is that possible? It doesn't work that way when I untick the box. When the box is unticked, it only retains the caption for that one slide and removes it for all the rest, which as it should be.
The following message appears before the user to ask if this is really what they want to do. At least it works that way in the version 6 I'm using at the moment.
"You are about to change a global show caption to a slide caption. This caption appears on (X number) slides. If you continue it will remain on this slide only."
"Are you sure you want to delete this caption?"
In other words, it deletes the caption on all other slides except the one that has the box unticked. All the other slides also have unticked boxes and no captions either.
Re: Caption Macros
Go to the captions section in the Captions Settings tab of the slide on which you do not want the caption to appear. Uncheck (make it NOT enabled) the caption (even the global one) you want to turn off. It will no longer appear for that slide. DO NOT DELETE the caption as it will delete it from all slides (which is what it appears you are trying to do). Just do not enable the caption for those slides you don't want the caption to appear on and all will be well.
This includes the slide on which the caption was made global. As long as you do NOT untick the checkbox here, the caption remains global.

Using the hide/show caption layer box to hide the particular caption in a slide, (turning it off), while retaining the layer is a great solution to selective global caption application. That should prove useful for those looking for a shortcut.
