Custom Setting for Thumbnail Sorting

Hi,

Does anyone know how to set the custom setting for the sorting of thumbnails in the file folders? I'd like to be able to sort my pictures by the time/date the pictures were taken, not when they were modified and I was hoping I could use the custom setting but I don't see how to use it.
