Lightning Effect wanted:
I'm looking for a lightning effect that can be used in conjunction with the Thunder that was shown on the Photodex website. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Richard...

I'm sure there are several ways to get there but what I did was to simply insert a white slide between two copies of the slide I wanted the effect on. The white slide stayed on screen a fraction of a second -- short enough it wasn't really seen. A thunder sound was used in the background a couple times on prior slides then the lightning stroke sound effect placed on the first of the two copies and allowed to play through to completion and the timing of the three slide combo adjusted to fit the length of that sound clip. It's fake--it won't fool you but oddly effective in conveying the effect. BTW, I didn't invent that idea--someone here mentioned doing it tho' I don't remember who and a quick search didn't turn up the thread.

You can also add the same photo with a lot of whitening or brightening along with the white blank slide. Its all about the timing.

I thought I had seen something on how to do it in Photoshop recently but I
can't find it right now. One thing to keep in mind (depending on how realistic
you want to be) is what they were calling "reactive lighting" at Digital Juice -
they have a great 6 minute or so "tutorial" on it. Basically, to make things
look realistic, when you have a "fire ball" in your hand, light saber or
lightening, you not only need to have the effect you are adding but you
need to modify the rest of the image to show realism - in this case, the
flash of lightening would also increase briefly the illumination of the area
near it. You might want to check out the tutorial at Digital Juice for some
ideas if you are interested ...

Thank you for that link, it is very helpful.
When I view just the http://www.photodex.com/training/howto/ page I do not see the howto_halloween.html link in the list of How Tos. Does that mean that other How Tos exist that are not shown on the page?
Thanks.
