Music - change start point and fading
I am trying to start Music at te 3rd slide rather than the beginning, I am sure it can be done but cant figure out how.
Also, is it possible to fade out one tract and fade in the other rather than having a start stop scenario.
Thanks again to all of you for your help

Hi again Angus !!
There are a couple of ways to start at the third slide ...
1) on the timing for the main track, you can set an
offset in seconds (either + or - ) to get to start at a
different time (more on that for your second question too)
2) Attach the sound track to the third slide instead of the
main track and check the box that says to continue after
slide has ended.
As far as the "start/stop" situation where the sound often
has a click etc, the trick to that is to set the second sound
to start -1 seconds (or whatever) after the end of the one
before it (if you look at the settings where you choose the
sound tracks, one of the options says something about
a delay or something after the end of the one before it.
Just put in a negative number and they overlap.
Hope that fixes those two for you

Hi Mikey,
Thats brilliant. that solved the first problem just fine. The second problem is not quite so easy I think, the second music track begind with a loud drum beat and is much louder than the ending of the first track so I'd like to start the 2nd track at a lower volume and fade it up gradually.
Any ideas?

Angus,
The easiest way I've found to set offsets and fades is to hit the Tab key on your keyboard. This will expand the soundtrack waveform and by holding down the 'CTRL' key you can drag the individual tracks to where you want them to start and also adjust the fade-in/fade-out time as well as overlap tracks if you choose.

Ah yes, your second problem is a bit more problematic. The
best answer is to put them together in an external editor and
adjust them as you see fit, however, there are a couple of
ways around it that should work.
You can't (I don't think) set the volume of one section of the
main track, HOWEVER, if you just want to fade the second one
in, if you go to the page where you set the sound clip, you
will notice a button for "edit fades and timing" or something
like that. When you click that, you get a waveform screen that
you can work with (even if it is a bit "odd" to work with) where
you can adjust the start/end of a piece as well as fades for the
start and end (the solid line is the start/end) and the dashed
line is the start/end of a fade - you can put a fade in on the
front just like you can do a fade out on the end. Now if they
only allowed us to twiddle with the levels at other points ...
Or, Barbara's method should work also -- I use the tab to sync
the slides to the waveform all the time, but had not realized I
could adjust the fade in/ fade out time that way also. Learn
something new every day (or was that something I forgot
yesterday and just *seems* new today ? )

Angus,
Here's a quick tutorial I put together of the method I described. You should be able to fade in your second track and lower the volume of the drum beat with this method. Pictures are usually easier to understand than words.

Mikey and Barbara have you going in the right direction....
On a related item, I just thought I would mention something I have also done.
When I have a track that I want to use, but it is too short or I only want to use a certain portion. I have loaded the same track two times and "spliced" them together using the timeline. Sometimes it takes a while, but it does work.
I have had better luck with instrumentals in doing this. Its all in choosing just the right place to "splice". Not too elegant but it worked and I haven't learned to use my 3rd party audio editor yet.
Since they are separate tracks, I think one could also adjust them individually.
